I hooked up the tail lights, bolted the seat in and the outside seat belts. I need help with the inner since my arms are not long enough. I did prime the tail gate but I really am not going to use it since it is fairly beat up.

Created a stereo system from speakers lying around my house and an iPod. Sanded, used Nitro-Stan putty, and primered the passenger's bed rail. Also somehow managed to get the horn stuck in the "on" position so it never shuts up, because I'm missing a small plastic part from the rebuild of half of the column. Succeeded on making all marker lights, brake lights, and turn signals work. Final step are the headlights, and then I can take it out on the road. Well, I can't, I still don't have a license.

Installed my donated low mileage, rebuilt, stock 350 with '98 serp system. It's so nice to have power steering and a big alternator now. When my Spal fan would kick on before the voltage would drop 2v and now it drops about 0.5v. I'm looking forward to adding AC for next summer too now that I have the compressor on the engine.

Wiper motor and linkages are on. Cowl panel and seal on. Bullets till we power up and zero the motor then I'll probably go with wipers. Bumper brackets are on and bumper is bolted down for good. Decided not to use the guards and put them away for another day perhaps - just seemed so clean and straight without them. Old 63 Cali tag and Showdown topper on. Primered the filler panel valances and front fenders before we called it a day... great weekend!

Finally got enugh fuel out of the original tank to do the swap to the underbead tank. Installed the new spedometer cable in along with the two speed wiper motor. All in all a good day.

I took the first step in moving my truck from our main shop to the shop we are renting down the street so I can work on it year round. Its a complete mechanics shop with lifts and our booth that isn't being used by the owner. He's just happy to have someone in it to "keep an eye on things" when he isn't around.

There's nothing like father son time in the garage! Great little helper you got there.

All my helpers were climbing trees and playing volleyball but I got my transmission back in and found out all I needed to do was tighten a nut to fix my problem. Not rebuild the entire tranny. Oh well. At least I have a brand new transmission now!

Then I pulled out my Rockwell T221 for a rebuild. It's one heavy beast!

thanx man i got the wood from a local lumber yard. its just some cheap white pine but looks really good all stained and varnished up
btw it cost me about 100$ for all the wood

Looks nice Coultur, where did you get the wood from? I have my stainless strips but I'm thinking about making my own wood slats. The kits aren't usually very cheap.

well, this weekend I got my motor put back together and my transmission cleaned and painted! heres some pictures, I got it put back in the truck but, I didn't get a picture of it sitting in the truck!!

Picked up a new master cylinder for the 63 last night. Will be the upcoming project this weekend...Will be replacing the front to rear brake line also.

Do you plan to split the front and rear brakes using a dual-circuit master or is this a direct replacement of the stock MC? I am hemmin' and hawin' about whether to:

  • install a dual-circuit master with the stock drums;

I have a disk brake conversion kit and a new dual master w/stainless steel line kit to install at some point. Im just going to replace the stock unit w/another stock unit to keep it functional for now. Its still my daily driver, so until I take it off the road to do all the conversions I have set up in boxes....just keeping it reliable and safe.

I still have the original 230 installed, so the single master will be fine. I'll definitely be upgrading to the disk brakes and dual master with the big block going in.


***pedal has been getting a little softer lately. No fluid loss, brakes are adjusted good, cylinders are functioning fine, but lately pedal is getting uncomfortably softer and closer to the floor. Had to just about stand on them the other day to stop, so I'm pretty sure the fluid is bypassing in the master cylinder. $24 for a replacement through o'reillys...but rain for the next few days, so it'll probably be Thursday before I can get it installed. When inspecting the brake system I noticed the front to rear brake line doesn't look that great. Its not leaking, but it doesn't look the best, and for the cost and piece of mind it'll get replaced. I'll probably go 3/16" line like the factory did although a lot of people run 1/4" front the front "t" to the rear rubber line. Other option is to go 1/4" back from the front "t" since it'll all be 1/4" on the back when the dual master goes in.

Part # 10-34403 $24 at O'reillys should it help anyone else.

Another note....I've owned quite a few of these 1st gen c-10's and this was the first to have the 1 1/8" cylinder with the off set firewall mounts. Normally I see the small round mc with the bale on top. But the firewall only has the offset holes, so it was stock on this truck at least.

The single lung masters are dangerous, Lose one line and all your brakes go out, happened to me twice. Ill be switching to a dual master asap.

I can speak on this also....lost a front wheel cylinder in a 63 c-10 back in 1997 and it ended up in a 5 car/truck pile up. The single masters were used by many companies for a long time, but I do agree that a dual mc is better. I will be upgrading, but it'll have to wait a few months. This 63 is my daily driver, so I need it on the road and reliable and will go to the disk brakes probably after the 1st of the new year.

I've had that happen a few times as well. In my experience it turned out to be the rubber flex hoses, especially the one in the rear. Front hoses seem to be replaced every now and then but the rear hose almost never for some reason. The hoses deteriorate from the inside out, and when they get bad enough they can swell up absorbing some of the pressure meant to reach the wheel cylinders.
