Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Your Good Kees...No worries!
Some Guys will get crazy with the floors and be over the top, usually put beads in them for stiffing and trans tunnels the same way. Then we put carpet on them and it all goes away!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Much cleaner than the solution I used on my '49. Should be plenty strong without the beads. Nice fab work!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
I was just thinking the 1/2 circle part could be made from the edge of a steel trailer fender. it would already be curved and have the rounded edge built in, usually 16ga so fairly easy welding to it as well.
nice job. what is the other part there, a piece of the future console? |

Not going to lie. The first picture I saw of the tunnel was from the inside and I thought it was going to look terrible. Boy was I wrong. It looks awesome under the hood.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Update:
I put the front end back on so I can start to mockup the radiator. Pic 1. I originally wanted to run a mechanical fan,but turns out it will be to far away. Pic 2. Front view Pic 3. After I cut the stock support up to fit my radiator (steering box is in the way) so I will need to move it forward, hence the reason the fan wont work. Pic 4. Another shot of the box. Pic 5. The radiator is from Speedway 19x22 (used several of these and work excellent) Its there hotrod radiator (several sizes) for $120-130 range depending on the size I will end up making my own support to fit my needs. Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
The electric fan I used on my '49 was a perfect fit to the Speedway radiator. Its a Derale 2 speed and I have never seen it kick on the high side. Mine is running a 6.0/4L80e combo. Will sit in traffic at idle in our eastern KS high humidity heat and never run hot.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
looks great! usually the problem I have with running a fan is the stock (AD) width radiators the fan is too low and would cut the lower hose in half. looks like you have a lot of room to put a rad in with the amount you moved the motor back though, good job.
I was just a a swap meet and passed over every single old steel fan shroud that was there, not even thinking thats always the one thing I need haha.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Thanks Joedoh, It's not a big deal not being able to use a stock fan (just extra cost) for the electric one.
And as far as the fan shroud goes,I'm the same way...walk by 10 things you need a month later! Mark

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Mark, I'll pull the number off the fan and get you a link. I don't remember off hand, it has just enough resistance slip fitting between the tanks and covers a big portion of the radiator.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
The firewall looks great. The speedway rad seems to be a good alternative. I'm a sucker for top center hose rads like stock or belair etc. Not sure how high you mounted your engine but I like to come up a bit with them, and if you are running a mech fan, would def help for guys that are considering that route.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Thanks 99
To answer your ? the mechanical fan sits dead center (need to use electric do to steering box) so engine sits back farther and Rad is farther forward, so the gap is to big. Mark

Pic 1. This is the start to my new fender/radiator support and mount. the bolts you see in the middle go through a crossmember bolted to the front stub. Pic 2. A shot of the Radiator set in place for mockup. Now I can start to figure out the top section. Pic 3. Here it shows how close the box is. (If you don't remember this is a 70 Camaro front stub) Till next time Mark
