nice lol... I used to drive mine through my subdivision with no hood, front fenders and grille - got a few stares testing...of course

I have just been logging miles on mine - 500 miles and 3 oil changes so far, incident free. Every kid in town that thinks they have a fast car has been askin for a whoopin' but I'm still babying her and street racing is something I left behind a long, long time ago.

Kinda wishing now I would have removed the door handles tho...to late/ah well...

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I'm waiting on parts so I stripped my other chassis of the usable pieces like side board mounts, cab mounts, and master cylinder and mount, to clean up and sell. Its My budget that is going to be what either lets me or keeps me from driving this summer.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Well it may not have been today so to speak, but over the weekend I got to run my 69 C10 down the 1/4 mile for the first time! After 8 years of having it on the street with 3 different engines and 2 paintjobs its never seen the track! It saw over 400 of miles of street driving last week alone! Drove it to work and back (33 miles one way) every day of the week plus all over hell to run every errand I had . Needless to say I had a blast driving it all week long, then got to drive it 1 1/2 hrs East to Rock Falls Raceway outside of Eau Claire WI. I ran a 13.81 @ 98 mph my first pass ever in 95+ degree heat with extreme humidity and a crazy stumble off the line. Best pass of the weekend was 13.6 @ 102 mph with a full tank of gas and 150-175 lbs of stereo still in the truck, and drove it home in the rain! Not the fastest thing out there, but you bet your @$$ it was a fantastic experience!

I think your 53 GMC is going to be quicker than that C-10. Get it running and prove me right!

Honestly I doubt it, but who knows! The C10 makes 450 hp and 480 ft lbs, at 3800 lbs with 3:42 gears. The GMC will be lucky to be making 350 hp, but have no idea what it will weigh. It has 3:23 gears but a much deeper 1st gear in the 4L60E. Regaurdless it doesn't matter to me, both trucks are built as cruisers and not for running down the track. But I can tell ya when Ive had that LS in the 53 running I can definately picture winding it out down the track!

Awesome - sounds like a great time - very respectable time for a 'ol work truck Always an extreme bonus when you don;t break anything at the track, lol. Well done & enjoy!

lol, well kinda. Making darn sure she's not grinding anything

Change 1: after 15 minutes of idling at 2k rpm

Change 2: After 100 miles, in town, low rpm cruising

Change 3: After 300 miles with interstate use at up to 70

All has been clear, so change 4 will be at 2000 miles, then after that every 3k, like clockwork

cut out the plates to box the rear of my frame. They came out pretty good. a little more grinding and some bending to fit, then the hard part cleaning up the frame.

Thanks Ray, i think it took less time than trying to follow all the long lines then grinding it all smooth it only took about 10 minutes to cut after I made the template. much less time than my steering coulmn.

Went to the local Pick-N-Pull and pulled a Explorer rear end. Under 100 bucks for disk brakes, posi and good gears.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

After buying it on Thursday, I drove it from where it has set for who knows how long back home. Pull started her, brakes didn't work so I used the hand brake on the backroads all the way home! Very fun, nerve racking, dirty, and definitely dangerous adventure. I am fully aware of how dangerous it was, but the backroads weren't very busy. 1948 1 1/2 ton Loadmaster and the 'ol 235 ran pretty good!

More sanding. Dropped the tailgate on the Chevelle fender, now I have that body work to look forward to. Called it quits while I was ahead.

Stripped the wiring and accessories off my 5.7L Tahoe in prep for engine R&R

Did I mention I pulled the body to do it the easy way. (see '98 Tahoe body off engine swap thread)on 88 -98 board.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I made some backing plales with welded nuts that I welded to the inside of the frame.
That way when I weld the boxing plates on I don't have to worry about fighting the nuts that hold the runningboard hangers.
