Looking nice. By the looks of it, when I do mine, I'm going to have to strip it too.......

Re: 72 k20 project

yours will be a little different in places do to the engine placement and all that, but getting all the crap out of the way is definitely helpful

I like your way of thinking! i have a lot of "research" in this one

i know what you mean about ideas. Dieselwrencher and i have gone back and forth for the last few years giving one another helpful "ideas" this truck wasnt going to have twins, wasnt going to have links and bags yet. too many conversations about how cool stuff would be and now, both of us have built and rebuilt a truck a few times and neither one of them is done. Haha i am trying to collect and prepare for a 1000 hp engine to go in this truck in the future. while i cant blame Ryan for the idea, i can blame him for giving me overwhelming advice on how easy and awesome it would be, and he just happened to have an engine he would trade me...

Re: 72 k20 project

revisited the rear crossmember bracket. revision was a home run so i burned it in.

the crossmember mounts are also the hard point for the rear set of engine mounts.

i also received a box with my fuel water separator and two spares inside. i opted for the slightly longer part number and it matched the cat filter just about right. not that it matters, but it satisfies my neurosis.

Re: 72 k20 project

Thanks my friend!

today i got the engine back in the frame. the bushings are installed in the frame brackets. i will try to get those connected to the engine block sometime.

it clears the engine with plenty of space for my yet to be made oilpan.

Re: 72 k20 project

I really like the direction you are going with the new engine mounts and cross member. The engine should be held firmly in place with the 4 mounts compared to just 2 like I'm using. Looks great!

Just save your money. There's places that make cross members and mount kits that will fit your truck.

You guys are probably right.I will end up doing both.!

Who exactly makes the crossmembers.? Anybody make engine mounts ?

I have been looking into a motor/trans for a swap.
Still trying to work out a list of what i really need to do a swap correctly.Thinking a 12v would be easiest for a dummy like me ?.

I did get a 60/14 bolt combo for the swap, with a brand new ORD crossover steering setup and a brand new steering box for $450 the other day !
I never get good deals.

Re: 72 k20 project

That is a good deal.

im not sure of who offers crosmembers for a cummins for these particular trucks. there a few options for the squares. not sure ive seen one in a while specific to this truck. though i may be wrong. i usually do my own.

12v is probably the most strait forward option for swapping. there is very little wiring that needs to be done to make the engine run. as far as the required fab, one version wont be much different than the next.

Re: 72 k20 project

Auto World in Montana makes mounts and a cross member for these trucks. Some others do as well, but they don't compare to how nice AW's is.

I think it's actually http://www.cumminsdieselrepowers.com/ now. While I didn't get the cross member from them, I did get the A/C bracket. Nice work.

ive been spending a lot of my project time on trying to get that engine stand built, so i havent done much. i did finally get this cut out and tested. i need to sand a slight amount off the bushing tube and the sleeves so the bushing is less tight in the mount. a little more wiggle room will help these go on a lot easier in the future. they arent the prettiest thing, but i wanted to use heavy material here due the longer reach out and the overhang of the block plate.

So, why just angle the exhaust manifold rather than fabricate a complete masterpiece? Educate please.
