Got my crossmember back from Kert, added 4 flanges(sons idea for fix) now I can easily drop the pan without supporting engine. Thanks to DIY4X

OFF TOPIC---20lb Salmon fell to a purple egg sucking leach fly...As AJ would say "who's the dork with the fish, wait that's me"

Nice modification - and what a beauty of a salmon - makes me very hungry!

I wonder, had you made the mod first, if it would of fit without having to send it back to DIY...?

Adding the plates by themselves might of given enough room for the oil pan clearance.
(just thinking out load here)

Nice mod non the less.

In the beginning we didn't know what would fix it, he was going to bend a new cross member, untill Jon came up with the flange idea...

My understanding from Kert was that certain oilpans will clear the crossmember, mine was about 1/2" short of lining up the motor mount bolts. Kert felt with the thickness of the flanges(total between 2 is a 1/2" per side) bolt on motor mount is a 9/16", so half of that is like 4.5/16". I needed a half a hole, to get it to line up. That whole paragraph probably doesn't make much sense, but I can still add a spacer between the flanges if I need more space

I'll find out tomorrow, and will be better able to answer your question

Re: PO has me PO'd

First off, on a safety note, since the engine is only hanging by the manifold plate, I had a sturdy jackstand under the ringgear in case something went wrong...I would like to mention that since Kert added locking nuts welded to the frame plate it makes it alot easier to mount up the crossmember. You don't have to try and hold the nut with a wrench in between the plate and the frame. Nicely thought out product and he was never to busy to take my phone calls
Basic hand tools required...sweet truck!

Modified crossmember

It's still tight, but with a spacer between the flanges, it should be good to go

This pic. shows how you can now drop the pan w/o removing motor mounts

Off the hook

So, to answer your question Kurt, yes it will fit with the addition of the flanges

Re: PO has me PO'd

Finally got the oil pan mounted up, one pc. gasket, and grey silicon on all 8 corners(top and bottom of gasket) as recommended by the members

I think this engine is a canidate for Seafoam, coked up... I'll pull the dizzy and make up a shaft to spin the oil pump since I want to prime the entire oil system before starting up the engine

Yeah, sounds like a nice run...I'd like to meet up with RustyParts and some other members in Tenn. area. Seems like there are alot of cool guys down there. June is out, sons gettin' married. Maybe we'll get Tim to come down, and yes the Mich. trip is still in the works. Guess I better get my arse in gear

Actually, the foe is on the other shoot...you inspire me! Your work is far superior to mine, I would never go where you have gone. Nice job on the Garage, I see many, many happy hours down there

Re: PO has me PO'd

Yeah, they sound like a great bunch.
I've met a couple, looking forward to meeting more...

Mich. is still a 'must do', this only came to mind when I read they were having a gathering in July next year.

Think it's doable for ya Tim?

Nice work!! Great idea on the crossmember. Did the frame rails spread any when you took it out? Or did it bolt right back in?

btw...love the fish pic!

I'll be able to answer your question in a couple days, parts are painted and waiting for reassembly....didn't appear to move much when I took it out

Re: PO has me PO'd

OK, woke up at 4 AM this morning figgered I'd put some time into the truck...got the final crossmember in and buttoned up. I suggest starting all bolts and then tighten down, as this seems to pull everything together evenly, This mod could be done at home, but I didn't want to fool with DIY4X's product in case something went wrong...

AJ, didn't see any pulling or pushing of the frame members while I

installed it

Here's some pics.

I picked up some utility seats from 6t727t2 and my plans are to recover them like the pic supplied by Ironmike

OK, now I'm back to where I was 2 months ago...lol. Also decided to buy a short block, I'll start searching for the best price, maybe GM remanu
