I'm the same way, ill staire at something for hours trying to build it when it could have been made already, or purchased..lol I had to just start telling myself to do something, right or wrong just move forward on this thing. I even put a note on my wall at my work bench that says "get to work" I like your cutting jig.. what is that part you used for the plasma tip holder.

I made that when i worked in a machine shop.I think it would be pretty easy to make one out of a piece of tubing though.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I started the lower coil-over mounts. I started last night by making a drawing and tuning it until I had somthing that I liked.

This morning I made a template for the parts that fit between the shock and the part that welds to the housing{on the left}. The template is .125 smaller on all sides to compamsate for the tip on the plasma cutter.this will allow me to make all four parts the same. it will also make it easier to make a replacement if I don't get the bending right the first time!

Then I drilled the holes for the first plate that welds to the housing.{on the right. The silver marker lines show roughly how it will look.As an after thought I think I might add another adjusting hole on the bottom.
When I get it the way I like{before cutting} I will clamp a blank to it and use transfer punches so both come out the same. I also like to bolt parts that aer the same together during final grinding.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Hit a milestone. Finished up the major body work (except for the gas tank door) and will prime for final block sanding on bumpers, grille and some other small pieces that will be silver. I am sure there will be somethings I need to address when I hang the doors and front fenders, but no more welding, bumping or plastic work.

It really is pretty old tech the autocad is 2002. I use it quite a bit for sketching my parts. Its kind of nice to see what the parts will look like.
The rest is the same way you do things.I spent morethan a few yearsas a prototype machinist so I just am more used to thinking that way.
if you look atmy steering coulmn threat I used simple tools. and got a decant result.

Bought a 96 caprice cop car for the motor and tranny. Will probably rebuild both but I got the entire car for 200 bucks.

Good deal, that is what my engine and transmission came out of, though it was a 91 and we paid a little more for it, but you got a screaming deal. Does it have the LT1 or baby LT1?

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Its the 5.7. Since I got it so cheap I will probably rebuild the motor and tranny both. I am hoping to use as many parts as possible from this thing. Now I need to start getting ideas how far back I need to mount it in the S10 frame so I can get the cab and stuff mocked up.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

progress for today. the first this is how i shorten up my cutting fixture. I was shooting for just over 3" looks like I am good. Next is how I use a 1/8" spacer to set the distance from the flame to the line I want to follow. The next two are a washer tacked to a bolt for the small radius. This works good for around holes. if there isn't a hole I use a needle nosed vise grips to clamp a washer to the part.

Thanks Ray, I have a lot of fun making things like this. I made that jig to cut tops out of beer kegs for home brew boil pots.
