Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I like the 40's too, but man, that looks killer. I just like a little more meaty look..

Pop, that PB notch just might find a home yet!

Hey Chad. When I look at this thread and think back to when you started advising me on my truck purchase, you were saying "I'm not going to do much with this one. It's gonna be my daily driver." The times they are a changing. It's gonna look sweet with those rims bro. Can't wait to see it.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

What we're thinking is maybe the label where Stiney had his Intro's shipped to him may have still been on the box (?) Hard to say really.

So, two labels and UPS just didn't know where to send them and / or maybe they scanned the wrong label and this wheel got mis-routed. I worked in logistics for about 8yrs and it happens quite often. Not saying it's something that's anyone's fault ... it just happened. That's cool, as long as they found it. I can't mount them yet anyway, I have a bunch of scrubbing and painting to do The UPS tracking site has this wheel scheduled for delivery on 9/27. So, It should be here around the end of the week.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

On a different subject..

I have a Porterbuilt upper shock bar and CNotch kit for my stepper. What if it found it's way to the GMC and I buy another one for the step when I get to that point?? Yes?

Thoughts?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I agree with big Al, if it's only a 6 inch drop then no notch needed but anything more and notch for sure. I've been at a 5/7 for about 9 months and with the rear bump stops cut down I bottom out a lot so I have the notch in the bed to be installed this mornimg at work. I thank God for my job!!

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

6+2" blocks looks really good on BigAl's truck with the Coys. That's closer to what I'm after and the 45's might look better that way. I love the 'tucked' look.

I know this GMC is a pretty rare truck BUT, it's mine and I'm not really building it to re-sell. It didn't come with 4 wheel discs originally either .. I'm not afraid to notch it. Stance is everything on these trucks. We'll see what happens.

It sure would be easy with the bed off of it.

Notch it now while it's easy. Even with just 6" coils, you will bang it once in a while...

I agree with everybody else, notch it now while you have the bed off. You can always use a little extra clearance.

Doesn't the upper shock bar require you to run the PB lower shock crossbar also?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Yeah, I'd have to get the lower too. I just don't have that piece or the relocators just yet.

I talked to dad about it over the weekend. With new wood and hours invested in the polishing / varnish on the wood I seriously doubt I will ever haul anything in the truck. If I do, it won't be much.

What if I just took it down as far as possible without notching? I would cut it BUT, it's just something that can't be reversed. While I'd love to see it looooww.. the more I think about it I think I'd regret it. Big decision .. and you know how I am.

Just for that, I'm going to lower the front and Jack the back way up with Buckshot mudders on my new wheels.

I KNOW ! I change my mind a lot.

I'm not afraid to cut a frame for a notch, but I'm just not sure I want to cut the frame of a 70 SG / CST. I can tell you my stepper will be notched. It's just an original base truck, 6cyl 3OTT.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I know exactly how you feel. I'm the same way. Here's something to think about - If SG / CST's were ever going to be worth a lot of money, that time would be now. They made a bajillion of them - 1 less isn't going to stop the world from spinning. And while it's not easily reversed, I don't think it lessens the value any. Years from now when Buckshot Mudders are all the rage, you'll still be able to run them.

And when that time fiannly comes, you'll be in a nursing home trying to steady your drool cup. Cutting that vintage frame will be the last thing on your mind.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

CNotching a CST, or Mini Tubs in a 69 Camaro .. The value added to get the look of a hot rod / up to date suspension / brakes, etc would essentially offset it I know. I may take it to 6.5" or so and just see where it's at. If it's not low enough I have access to a rack so I could do a bolt in notch later on. But, no, I'm not afraid to .. It's just a $2,500 truck.. right?

Just a big decision.
