Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Oh jeez, my ADD is getting worse... I couldn't even finish my post.
I figured it would look pretty good with a sun roof, but that seems like extra work...

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Most of the underlayment is down. I have two more layers to throw down and it's done.
Of course there was no wind all day until I went to take the pics and then the loose bottom flew up I have to leave the bottom loose so I can "underlap" the next row down. The roof is just steep enough I don't feel safe standing on this stuff, and I didn't want to fill it full of holes from nailing jacks down, so I had to do this backwards. The other side has been done for a couple months? now and hasn't leaked a drop. This week will be a good test, we're going to get quite a bit or rain from Mon-thurs this week.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Finally,
I'll leave you with a bit of my stupidity. Apparently I didn't read my permit correctly and it expired after 6 months, so, like 5 months ago County shouldn't care, they just want their $, but with the covid crap I can't get a hold of anyone. I submitted their extension form early Wed, and haven't heard back. I'd like to get my structure approved so I can feel good about having the roof finished. I'll leave you with little baby brown throwing up a peace sign last week at the 20 week ultrasound.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
I figured this was coming... we've had multiple large hail storm storms, heavy winds, (and a couple tornadoes) that have caused massive damage in the upstate, and as a result... I can't even get anyone to come do an estimate for me for 2-3 weeks. On top of that, it won't stop raining, so I'm sure they're getting even further behind (just last week, between monday-wed we received over 7" of rain). We're already +22" of rain for the year and it's only May. Better than a drought year I guess. I might not be getting a roof until july or august unless I can convince someone my roof is more important than replacing a roof with a few hail dents (the hail damage roof replacement BS that goes on in this area is a joke).
Other good news is the roof is completely dry unless we get absolute torrential rains (when it rains that hard, it gets in under where my two tarps overlap on each side). It had a few drips where the tarps overlap when we had the torrential rains. I wish I would have thought to run a line of gorilla tape down the seam. That weatherproof gorilla tape is legit. It's been "raining normally" the last 3 days and it's completely dry in there when I checked this morning. Good news, I kinda passed my framing inspection. I had no idea what to expect. I "failed" on the roof not being complete, my man doors not installed (funny that's a requirement but I don't have to have the large garage doors installed), I have to have my attic access built (I put my foot in my mouth on that one, should have said nope, nothing up there) and I have to finish nailing all my roof ties, no biggie there. He said it was good enough to not schedule it again until I'm done with those and the electric is roughed in and they can be done together. So a little weight lifted there. I guess I'm going to take a break and finish up some left over projects inside the house, including repainting the little persons room.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Yes, and I'm grateful for being able to work from home the past couple of months, but we're going back to the office on Monday which means I'll have to make an hour round trip to meet people for quotes, etc. and take time off when they actually do the work. I've spent too much time on this thing to let someone come in and half ass it now.

Yea... huge weight lifted. I'm going to mess around with doors and maybe trying to figure out how I want to do the lighting this weekend, then I'm calling my electric guy.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Outside of the garage, we picked out a new color for the lil dude's room, I got everything repainted and touched up (still missing plug covers...) and started to put some of the furniture together. The crib was pretty easy... but that dresser took 3 beers. The blue is "peaceful blue" and the pics don't do it justice, great color.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Then... on to another 1 day project that ended up taking 3. It's also been hot as balls out and I've gotten some serious sun.
The block was NASTY. That clay did not want to come out of the pores of that block. I'm not looking forward to the other side, it's worse with 4" of silt I have to remove before I can even start. That can wait... I did this side so I could get the side doors installed. Then I realized the pointing was a little crappy. Then I realized it was REALLY crappy at the bottom AND there was extra bumped up concrete and mortar all over it. I plan to do a stone or block sidewalk up next to the building so it's best to get it all cleaned up now.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Lastly, I'll bore you with the painted pics and a couple more of the roof in better lighting.
I tried "Drylok" from the Home Depot. I like it, it has a sand texture so you can't screw up the "look" much. The block was definitely thirsty on the first coat, over a gallon, then the 2nd coat barely took 1/2 gallon. Next weekend I want to start lining up the siding starter strips relative to however square/level I got the roof and get the two man-doors in. Roof looks gray in last two pics... it is not... it is very much a sandy brown/tan mix, color looks right in the 2nd pic.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
I've contacted my electric guy. 4-6 weeks out. I figured as much. At this point, I'm not sure if I even care anymore about the timeline. It will be done... someday. I really don't have extra cash for car stuff right now anyway, but how cool would it be to finally make this damn firebird run and do smokey peg leg burnouts (on wet concrete, of course)?? I mean the new six is sitting right in front of it... now if it would just hop in the engine bay and run...
I bought some wire and light sockets to "redneck up" a light pattern I've been thinking of and see how bright it actually is. Mainly, I want to see if it's worth going to a set up using these guys below, or just keep with the standard long tube lights.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
Having the roof done is such a great feeling. I don't feel as much of a push to get it done now in any specific timeline, other than I'm kinda staying dedicated to "no car work until it's done" - otherwise I'll never finish it. I don't have to worry about storms ripping the tarps off... again... it's dry inside except when it rains sideways into the doors.
Obviously, electric is the next hurdle. I think my next project needs to be getting the staircase framed in so they can route my compressor wiring and whatever else needs to go there. I am busy. I'm also trying to close the deal on a new SUV for the misses. She doesn't want to be a "Mustang Mama", but we're keeping the car. With Covid and the 15% off sale AND "healthcare worker" discount, it's hard to get the color/model we want. 3 within 2 hours of here sold out from under me over the last week while inquiring/negotiating. Finally found another exact match in north FL. We finally came to a # I'm good with. Supposed to finish up today and pick it up this weekend. I'll canonball down in a rental (drop of is across the street!) and haul ass home. Another garage day gone... Probably be a 15 hour day. There's SO MANY options for lighting now. I'm going to buy a couple more of the lights above and see how they do one section. If it's what I'm expecting, based on lumens, I need 18 total. If it's not what I'm expecting LED "tubes" are next.

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
On Saturday I made a 870 mile round trip connonball run down to St. Augustine Florida yesterday to pick up the wife's new ride. With this Covid BS it was almost impossible to find the color/engine/options we wanted. This thing is LOADED. 2.0L Turbo Premier (255 HP), 9 sp auto, full leather, bose sound system (genuinely awesome), 360 camera system (awesome), autostart, heated and cooled seats, dual climate zone, nav... it has everything but a sunroof which we did not want, wasn't worth $1,400, which made finding this one that much harder. Why not have it shipped you ask? I don't spend money where I don't need to and the $950 shipping fee... or $180 rental dump off that was across the street (drop fee was $$), $55 in fuel, and another $30 on food and Dr. Pepper. Plus, road trips are fun. Haven't seen the east side of Florida in probably 15 years, we always end up on the gulf side. It was a nice Town. I drove a few miles down A1A and looked at the ocean for a few minutes before the trip home.
Between all 5 dealerships within 30 minutes of me... there was a total of 3 2.0L Premier models. I tried to buy 3 different ones over the past 2 weeks that were much closer, but they all sold before we could close (or even start) the deal. Mama is super happy, she loves it. She named him Rudy ('cause he's small )

Re: My Big Fat Renovation
It's tight. There's about a foot, to a foot and half at each door, and about a foot between each car. "Rudy" will eventually end up in the house garage and the 65 will be in the big garage (should be about a foot shorter), until our little guy is big enough to not need a car seat anymore (which apparently reading the new rules is like, basically a teenager... ), then I'll swap both the Mustangs back to the house garage for more room.
