Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

I'm interested in a group buy! My build is at the point where the tank is next. I've got a LWB 1/2 ton. The rear cross members behind the track bar mount have been removed and a new cross member added to the very rear of the frame rails so that I can get as large (capacity) tank as possible. Mine is set up for a side fill. LMK!

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

I've read through this thread a few times and also looked through the othe forums but hoping someone can chime in with some real life knowledge. I am looking to get an EFI side fill tank for mjy 64 suburban that will also have the porterbuilt setup. From what I can tell this will work for me but looking for some 63-66 people that have this tank for some feedback please. if it will work I'll jump in this group buy!

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

amazing how popular these have become... I helped design the first tank that Dave started making for our trucks. Others have kits out there but the prices are way higher...

BTW, I still have mine sitting in storage! I like the newer designs with the curved rear portion.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

I got one a year+ ago, it fit like a glove and has worked flawlessly since. I replaced a poly tank that worked but wasn't very big or nice to look at.

If I remember correctly, all group buys are through Pro Performance guys, yes you can go through Dave's website to purchase, but I think PP has the GB.

Good luck to all!

Clyde,

My frame should be the same as yours so good to know it will mount up. refresh my memory, how low is your truck? Also any idea on how low the tank hangs below the frame? Hoping to go all the way down with porterbuilt so thinking I may have to mount the tank inside the frame rails for a little extra clearance, but curious about how low it hangs below the frame on yours?

My truck is about 4.5-5" dropped in the back. It hangs about 4 or so inches below the rails IIRC. If you have your bed off and you are planning on raising the bed floor, you could mount it on top of the rails. Ill try and get you a pic of the tank and the placement in the morning.
