Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

While I'm waiting on some decent weather so I can spray some high build primer I've been piddling with some other stuff...got started on the gas tank fix....I had to cut the end off to get the grunk outta it...my buddy with the tig welder was gonna tig it back together for me but we were having trouble finding time between his and my projects to get it done...so I thought I'd give it a shot with the mig....it ain't the purtiest thing but I got it back together....
still have to pressure test...
The stamped corners of the tank were extremely thin ,which I assume is from the metal stretching when they stamped the halves..sure made for some interesting welding...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

You've got more confidence in your welding than I would have. I wouldn't even need a pressure test - a light test would reveal the pinholes Looks pretty good in the pictures though.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks Robert...looking back I think it would have been better to just build a new tank from aluminum..but maybe this one will be almost as good as new now...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Been avoiding this part like the plague....wiring....boy do I hate wiring...
I went with the American autowire 15 circuit kit....while I'm waiting on warmer weather I thought I'd start looking into this and see what all is gonna be involved....so I laid out the kit packages to see what's what..
After reading what nsb brought up about extra parts you have to buy, I thought I'd better look...
Looks like I'll be needing grommets for sure...
It looks to be a solid kit...
I think I've seen enough for now..
One page says start..one page says stop...im going with stop for now....Haha

I know you have a harness kit already - but just in case I highly recommend Affordable Street Rods. I used theirs (~30 circuit kit) on my '51 and I also really hate wiring. Their instructions were 15-20 pages, detailed but common sense and easy to read and follow. They made it seem very easy and anytime I got stuck, their number is printed on every wire about every foot. I called the owner, Rex, who never failed to take my many calls and very patiently walked me thru every issue I had. I can't say enough good things about them from the directions and support perspective. Something to consider - maybe right after the other one pisses you off and you cut it up and throw it out of the shop?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks Scott....ill look into his stuff....
this kit has a set of instructions for each circuit in the each individual bag.....I opened a few and quick read em....its reads fairly simple, but it still doesn't make me like wiring....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

HOLY COW..,!! WOW..,!! IM SPEECHLESS....Well almost...
If anybody kept up with this build so far you remember at the start I was trying to straighten a VERY bent up bumper...I did manage to impress even myself with how straight I got it...never did think itd be good enough to use....then I got in contact with elpaso plating..http://www.electroplatingelpaso.com/english/about-us
After we talked he said he could straighten and chrome it...I was somewhat sceptical as you can imagine...but I took a chance....well..it came back today..
And I'm still in awe...
Enough typing ...here it. Is
Couple before pic and then after..
I'll try getting some better pics tomorrow
