Here's my 230 before pic's. Gonna order the Offy 2X1 Intake and another Carb today. I'm going to look into getting a stock exhaust manifold and having another flange welded on to run dual pipes. If not that route then I'll get the shorties from Cliffords. Right now I'm running 2" straight out to the bumper and it sounds awesome with a fishtail tip from a Harley I had hanging in the shop. I'm looking at scoring a 292 and going all out with it like I've seen here. Lot's of good info and expertise here as well. Thanks in advance as well for any tips or pointers.

Awesome that your joining the 6 banger brother hood. lol That 230 can be made into a nice machine with some effort. But the 292's are not hard to find. My 292 will be making around 310 hp and 330 torque at least and it was just a "mild" street build. Still room for turbo to. You don't have to spend and break the bank at clifford. Tom Langdon from Langdon's Stovebolt has non-tube headers for a much more affordable price and just as good as clifford's.

Thanks TJ. And yes it is a toss up between the Cast ones and the Tubes from Cliffords. Also, my 230 runs so damn good I don't want to have my truck down for a long period. TJ, when I come across a 292 what parts(mounts,brackets ect) should I make sure I have so the 292 can just be swapped out. I was reading a new thread about 292 mounts and it got me thinking, is going from a 230 to a 292 a pain or just plug and play? Thanks, and your motor looks awesome.

You need a right hand side perch from another 63-66 truck with a 292 and apparently either the right hand block mount with OE spacers from a 292 or another left side mount from a 230/250 with some homemade spacers (I think--I still need to check and make sure). AFAIK the block mounts are the same from 63-72.

It also seems like a 67-72 292 perch (and 230/250, FWIW) may be the same as a 63-66, but I don't know.

I also forgot to mention that some 292's have 1/2" flywheel bolts instead of 7/16".

I have used it on my 250. And still do for that matter. I have it from my fuel block to my carbs.

3/8 line? I have a single barrel Rochester carb n I would like to do the same but not order the wrong size hose

That Vacuum Manifold off the intake manifold is rare.

Correct. According to Leo Santucci's book, 1966 was the last year for the 7/16'' flywheel/crank bolts on 292s, after that it was 1/2''.

The clifford headers Look better imop, but Tom's will Last alot longer. So all in all Langdon's will be the better of the two. Clifford's headers are made of a thicker gauge metal than most headers though.

I've never used Langdon's headers. I talked to Tom in 2002 when I was building up my current 292. He sent me some longer pushrods, my build needed when the Chevy dealer didn't stock them. Long time GM design engineer -- he was part of the team that developed the 230/250/292 series.
So he knows a lot and deals fairly.
That being said: I have had a pair of Clifford Research headers on my truck since 1978. They were on the last 292 for the better part of 250,000 miles [guessing 232,000] before I rebuilt another 292. At the rebuild, I had the old headers hot tanked, and bead-blasted. Then I painted them with VHT hi-temp Gray spray paint. They went on the ''new'' engine in 2005.
I did have the manifold flanges resurfaced in the mid '80s at the same time a crushed down tube [#5 IIRC] from offroad rock damage was repaired. The welder cut out the crushed section and welded fresh pipe over the hole. The mating manifold flange was re-made in 3/8" steel.
I live in the desert, in Tucson, so nothing much rusts badly.
