Hopefully mines a little less but I don't have that overdrive at this point. I think I may try the big kickdown th350 and see how it is for now

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
So we've decided to not cut the LCA's and go with a different method. So here goes my father will be oblonging the original pressed hole so that he can fit a race car style threaded sleeve into it about 1/2" inwards giving me the amount I need to move the wheel in and straighten up the tire so there's no alignment issues. Hell then get the arm plated where needed and clean up the edge so that I won't have a rubbing issue. These arms are already gnarred up so its no real lose to do this to them.
Well be using Titan low friction ball joints as well as long as he can find a long enough about to fit through the lower spindle. I won't get many in progress updates but here's a couple idea shots of the work. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Also have decided that I will not be swapping my trans out for a different one.. I've come to the realization if something works really well why change it ya know? Going all out on motor though most definitely 350/330 hp 96-2000 motor with the dug thorley mid length pipes I was looking at to add a little shiny to the engine compartment. She'll guzzle some gas for a bit but I think I'll be plenty happy

Sounds like fun plans. Curious to see how the ball joints turn out.

Sorry if I missed something, but what is causing your alignment issues in the first place?

Sorry if I missed something, but what is causing your alignment issues in the first place? I have a real bad issue with the driver side wheel leaning in at the top creating wear on the inside tread of the tire therefore causing a pull when driving and a nasty look when showing off the truck. So by moving the lower joint in the bottom scoots in and I can use less than the max amount of shims on the top which is where its at now. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I used some offset control arm shafts to solve that issue on my chevelle, not sure if they make them for these trucks though. I know they make them for the 73+ model years (moog problem solver).

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Those would be great to use but this may be my best solution for now. And yes I noticed that my moog ball joints seemed to have cracked in only under 2 years around the rubber they have. Very disappointed in that

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Got in some goodies on Friday and I'm still working on my motor guy to sell me the darn thing, he's crackin finally but darnit gotta seal the deal soon or else I won't make Brothers this year :/
Anyway been working on my steering wheel as of late it just wasn't living up to my standards with the shotty cracking it was getting along with being gummy. So tear down begins I'll post the main stuff in my official thread tmrw for the in-depth stuff and keep the quick progress here. Also going to be ordering up my mid length Doug Thorley headers and Trick Flow steel center to perimeter adapters from summit as soon as the deals made on the motor. Given that maybe we need a sneak peek at what I'm actually getting?? hmm maybe another time

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
To prevent cracking, you are going to have to find a filler material with the same rate of expansion under varying temperatures as the steering wheel material. If the two materials do not expand and contract at the same rate, they will separate.

it'll be a direct swap. The new motor already has its own intake, dist, water pump, and flywheel that is I they correspond to what I have now.. So I pull my carb, starter, fuel pump and serpentine pulley system from old motor and slap it to the new one bada-bing bada-boom. Should be do-able in a days work I'd say Posted via Mobile Device

did you twist it yourself? I didn't see anyone harassing you for pics yet...
I like your plan. Hopefully it works out that way for you.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Little update, no work on the steering wheel last night. But I did manage to pick up a ball joint unfortunately it's just a little large for the bottom of my spindle so ill be hoping our guy can find some kind of threaded style that we can use. I may en up putting my arms back on for now.
Would my old ball joints be find to press back in?? Also removed my old power steering box last night. She has a little too much play for my likin and was "catching" a while back so out she goes to be replaced with another that ill be picking up Saturday. Gotta pull the pitman arm what's my best method about this? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
You can get a pitman arm puller. There only about $15 and can be used for several other uses.
