Luckily GM square body doors are all over , matching the paint may be harder .

By way of an update:

I got a door here locally that following Monday. It's off an '85 pickup out of Texas (the guy had bought a '55 Chevy pickup to street rod and this door was laying in the back). Manual window, manual locks, small mirror, rust free.

Wasn't quite as straight as I thought when I first got it. There's a pushed in place by the mirror and it looks like it was thrown down on the lock cylinder (creating a low spot there).

I've got my glass and regulator in it now and it's ready to head to the paint shop. I'll report again once I get it back.

Both my doors are pushed in at the lock cylinder, there is no reinforcement bracket behind them, just the outer panel so it's easy to dent just by pushing the key in.

Wow just read through all of this thread after about 2 days on and off, you are quite the man Keith! Great stories with an awesome truck. Sad to see what happened with the door but you faired pretty well in the grand scheme of things. Keep the unique stories coming our way. Not often we get to hear stories as close to the production floor as yours with as many details.

Car is looking good, what are you running when you are not holding the ponies back? What are you 60' ing? Very envious of the 1/4 miles rides. Been a year and half for me.

When is the photo taken? Just as you start to launch, before you move. Looks like the front end is just starting to move up. Static for me is about 1/4 to 1/2" before bottoming of front suspension.

Package is still coming, should get to it soon.

It's gone 9.85 at 136 mph, with the "super tune" in the cool fall air.

It's legal from a safety certification standpoint to 10.00 so I have to choose wisely. They have a 10.00 index and the next one up is 10.50. The car wants to go between 10.27 and 10.32 most days, so I hate to speed up to try to hit 10 flat all the time (plus if I went too quick they could throw me out) but 10.50 is quite a ways to slow it down. I really need a 10.25 index (which happens sometimes, depending on the event and sanctioning body).

60's are typically low 1.50's to high 1.4's. It doesn't really pick the front end up much - just shoots forward.

Very nice, you definitely have some big H.P. under that hood to run those E.T.s, and 60 foots. It is really nice to have that much power on the top end. I have to run the Buick harder in "C or D" stock.

Second, your highlighting of a great article. To me it is also interesting to think about, how far our knowledge has progressed on making horse power. Lesser "stock" 427 CI horse power engines are now running very low 10s in a heaver car. These are NHRA Stocker 427 engines, production carb- unmodified, production cylinders heads with only valve technology upgraded, etc.

Whelp - it hasn't been that long, but here we go again!

My boss's boss came to me a couple weeks ago with an opportunity; he said he heard of this opening and immediately thought of me.

It's in the GM Performance Variants, Performance Parts & Motorsports group. Full vehicle program, start to finish, on a low volume production vehicle. Off property location; three year commitment.

I told him to throw my name in the hat and the next thing I know I am transitioning...

So - effective Monday March 2, 2015 - I'm going to be an Engineer in the GM Specialty Vehicle Activity.

I think if he does that he will be looking for another job , auto companies are pretty strict about that , if remember right a spy photographer snapped some interior pictures of the current GM trucks out testing and they fired the driver .
