Re: My 1965 build thread
lol ive used all three love them also have the HOG.. for when I realy need to get the bondo off.
as far as which to use... poly flex is more for plastic or stuff that will flex more. poly fill is great as a final but only can bea about 1/6 to 1/32 thick or it will crack....its not somthink to use to fill anything . just kinda level.. you can use the same stuff as alan his slick sand method is best for large panels. |

Re: My 1965 build thread
yeah that stuff is tricky on a verticle surface. You ever hear of dolphine glaze? Its the same stuff only about half the price. You probably know i just figured i would share in case you didnt.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I agree on being tricky on a verticle surface, especially in the summer. There are some guys in the shop that use dolphine glaze. I'll try it the next time I need a skim coat. I didn't know there was a big price difference.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I think the metal glaze is close to $30 of that sqeeze bottle, the dolphine glaze is like $12.. its in like a bag/pouch and close to the same quantity.

body work sucks[/QUOTE] I told myself after doing the body work to my forst car in highschool I would never do this for a living. Look at me now. Before I couldn't spell bodyman now I are one. Where did I go wrong? I keep telling myself something but it ain't that nice. Someday all of this hard work will be very satisfying.

I majored Architecture, and Commercial Art. What do I do??? Become a Mechanic I'm not sorry though. My friend is a Architect, and I was making more money than he was, besides I can repair my own car, which saves me a lot of money.

Getting more done. The cab is almost sanded. I have a few little areas that still need to be sanded. If it wasn't for Mothers day I might could have it painted this weekend, at least the orange. Then I will go back and two tone it. I mounted the seat brackets. I glued the floor reinforcements on with 3M 8515 panel bond and bolted it all together so it can set up. When I install the carpet I will remove the seat brackets so hopefully the floor reinforcements will stay in place. The water pump and fuel pump also got installed.

Re: My 1965 build thread
When I grow up and get a 2 car garage of my very own I'm going to be a madman. Frame off restoration will be when I know I've arrived.
I can't stress how much I've learned from this thread that I'll carry with me for life most likely. Can't wait to use it..

You're 28? 1/3 of you're life is gone. You're right though I think we all have learned a lot from Allan and everyone deserves at least a 2 car garage. Thanks Allan. Everytime I look over your thread I see something new that I missed. Trucks look sharp you'll be driving it soon.

Re: My 1965 build thread
What kind of pins are you using and how long are you holding the trigger? Do they just fall off or do they come off when your pulling on them?

The only thing I can think of is the alloy content in the tailgate is different. I'm not a metalurgist, but I've had that problem on some new cars. YOu are using new pins right? I've tried to reuse pins and for the most part it doesn't work. The tips get contaminated. Try grinding the tips down just a little and see what that does, just curious. If you do cut out the damaged area are you hammering it into shape and welding it back in? As long as it is not rusted.
