Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Cool truck, but 4K and reserve not met?

I missed out on a swb locally with similar amount of rust and it was running/driving...sold for 650. Put some rally wheels and paint the logos (which were obviously added very recently because they are over the rust) and now it's a 4K+ truck???

Seller is very smart with the current patina trend!

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Reminds me of the one my dad bought new in '72. 4-speed V-8, learned how to drive in it back in 1976. Beautiful trucks, I'll admit.

Ours was undriveable by the early 80's, rear truck arms literally rusted in two. Floors, rockers, bed were all rotted through. Drivetrain was still rock solid but the body was swiss cheese.

On a nice quiet night you could actually hear the body panels rusting.

Makes ya wonder what the steel was made out of?

This is the 69 GMC 4x4 stepper I'm about to buy. I guess this would qualify as patina? It really isn't very rusty though...

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

I didn't even notice the price the first time I saw it; I agree, that's a lot. Without the patina craze he wouldn't have his sights set nearly as high.

Killer truck, though - I'd lose those fat trim rings and drive the snot out of it.

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Came home last night and noticed that my neighbor had a new stepside project. Actually I think he was just cleaning up some scrap around the farm. While walking out to the mailbox I started wondering if it had a good bed front panel so I went over and looked. This hulk has been stripped inside and out of anything usable but the bed front panel was perfectly straight with no dents. Amazing! I was just ready to change my cloths, get my impact to twist off some bolts and run the air line out from his shop when I thought about feeling along the bottom to see how rusty the lower flange was. Well, most of the flange was rusted away. I guess it will go to the scrap yard with the rest.

That went for 5600? I know it looks pretty complete, but has quite a bit of cancer in the usual spots. Seems a little rich to me. Amazing what a logo and some shined up wheels will do for some people.

I looked at the Ebay ad. That truck was a borderline rust bucket, IMO.

Couldn't a straight front bed panel be saved by welding a flange across the bottom? (after I removed it from the truck with a hot wrench (torch).

Agreed...there was a thread on this truck also. Late last fall I just missed a SWB in similar condition that was a running/driving truck that was on craiglsist for 600. The only difference between that truck and the ebay one was the logos on the door and the rally wheels....in fact, the one local to me may have had less rust. And it didn't have this from the ebay ad:

Hi, how was the truck lowered? What sixe tires and wheels? Thanks, Pete
A: We removed two of the rear leafs out of the springs and heated the front springs, it actually rides and drives better than it did. The wheels are 15x8. Thanks

Re: Patina, shop logo'd, rusty trucks?

Yeah, heated coils = bad news. Sounds like the owner scored a cheap patina truck, slapped on some rallies and logos, lowered it as cheaply as possible, and looked to triple or quadruple his investment.

I usually turn around and go the other way when I see a cab with that much rust around the windshield and inside the door openings.
