Thanks Mike. I've had to ditch that mount for the ECM. The fuse panel is still there, but the harness was too short and would require I extend about 3/4 of the entire harness to get that location to work. Plus, the connectors are pretty tall and it wanted to share space with the back of the seat.

It made more sense to put it on the floor under the seat. I have about 4" from the seat mount to the top of the seat frame and the top of the connector is about 3.5" from the mount point. I should have enough space for the ECM to sit on the floor without interference. I still need to put the seat in and see how much it sags when I'm sitting on it.

I haven't determined where it will sit exactly yet, but it can go anywhere under either side of the seat and probably still be fine, as long as it's near the center position, just not actually in the center... the floor is raised there. I just need to figure out the best location for clearance when someone is sitting in the seat.

It will be something like this:

I did test fit the headers. For those interested, these are Doug Thorley Tri-Y long tubes. The drivers side is the closest fitting, but still plenty of clearance where I have it sitting.

Not much progress lately. I've had several deadlines at work and haven't had any time when I get home to do much of anything.

I did find out Denny's Driveshaft in New York won't make a new driveshaft for a 6L90 trans. They refused the job saying they "don't have the right fixture for it". Whatever that means. This is the go-to place for my local hot rod shop, which is why I even tried them in the first place. I have found a couple other places that might do it. The one I'm leaning toward is The Driveshaft Shop out of North Carolina.

Oh, in case anyone is wondering, I haven't hear anything good about local shops when it comes to custom driveshafts. Especially since I want to go with an aluminum unit. That's why I'm outsourcing it to another state.

DSS built the driveshaft for my gold 68. Nice product.

Too bad about Denny's, I also thought they'd be a good choice. As soon as you spec aluminum or carbon fiber, though, the price goes up and the list of vendors goes down considerably.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit weird. They can supposedly do a shaft for the 6L80, but not the 6L90. I thought they shared the output shaft, but I don't know. Once they refused to take the job, I was done trying anything with them. I thought maybe they couldn't do it for the car style with the bolt on flange yoke, but the truck style slip yoke should have been doable. But, I'm not the expert so maybe they can't do it. At least I've found a couple of other places that say they can.

Okay, time to play a little catch up...

A few weeks ago I went to the Lone Star Throwdown here in Houston. I rode with another C/10 Club member in his 67. While at the show I was looking around at all the LS swaps and noticed that most of them were set really far back into the firewall. That got me worried I was going to be too far forward, so I mocked up the core support and radiator to check fitment.
Seems to have plenty of clearance.


Then I decided it was time to check the air intake. The K&N kit I bought was for a 2016 Silverado 2500 with the same engine... it apparently uses a larger throttle body, so I couldn't use the 90* silicone bend. I bought a Spectre GM 3.875" to 3.5" coupler, a 3.5" coupler and an aluminum 3.5" 90* bend and mocked it up.

It still clears, but the filter is going to try to sit where the tire is, so some trimming is in order.

I also installed the auxiliary battery tray I had purchased to move my battery. Since I'm no longer moving my battery, I decided I wanted to put the filter in that spot. I'll be doing some cutting and welding on that intake tube to get it to work, but I think it will be good in the end.

And now this weekends minor progress...

I started wrapping my wires with the braided wire wrap I used on the small block.



Had to make a couple more connections and still have to finish stretching my MAF wires. Once that's done, I can wrap up the middle section on top of the transmission. Then it should just be a matter of making the final power connections and I should be able to pull the tune! Hopefully...

That is right where my motor sits too! Had the same worry, but after mocking it all up last week I found it works perfectly for me also. I personally like it being more forward, makes it easier to work on things on the back of the motor, and everything else is closer to you when you work on it on the front of the motor.

I set mine where it is, after it was already back some more, because I couldn't get my coil covers to fit. They still need a little trimming for clearance, but that's as far forward as I wanted to go. But I like your thinking. It also gives me some space to move my coil packs to the back of the heads, if I decide to put them there later.

Time for some progress updates...

I checked clearance of the coil covers so I could figure out how much I needed to trim on the drivers side. This is the passenger side, almost enough for a standard sharpie to fit between the cover and the firewall curve.


And the passenger side after several attempts to sneak up on the desired shape.


Both covers now fit without interference from the firewall.


and I got the Dakota Digital VHX gauges in finally. Had to route and connect the air pressure sensor wires to the BIM module first, but it's all in and ready to go. I also mounted the OBD-II (DLC) on the metal plate below the steering column (waiting on my new Ididit column so I can get it painted).

Great work, Duane. The photo of the gauges don't do them justice. They have a counter display of the unit like yours at Classic Parts hooked up to some kind of dummy inputs that sweep the gauges and step thru the various digital readouts. I just stand there like a kid in a candy store watching all the action.

Nice build man. Nice to see the 6L90 fit with very little cutting. I will be swapping out my 5.3L/4L60 for a 6.2L/6L90 shortly. I like those guages Aswell, I put Speedhut guages in my truck. I cut off the DLC connector and wired into the CAN network and they work great.

I love the way they look in other peoples vehicles. I've yet to see how these look in person, but I bet they'll be just as nice as what I've seen.

Thanks! I have the Dakota Digital BIM Module that allows you to use the DLC for the gauges. Should be super simple to have everything work. The only one I'm not using the DLC for is the fuel gauge.

The DD gauge setup come with a Demo mode that puts it through it's paces, .
