I was concentrating on the lower part of the door that shows and didn't even look up to see I needed a much wetter pass here. Since it is covered it won't matter, but it just shows how drastically different the paint can turn out just by trying, watching, practicing.
Good tip. Thanks! Blue will look incredible with the white.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Looks great. Most people won't paint their own trucks. It can be overwhelming. I took my time and my truck has 12 year old paint now, only a couple of issues after all that time.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Does anyone know where the upper trim locates on the fender? Can someone get a flexible tape measure and measure for me from the top edge of the fender (at the hood) to the middle of the upper trim near the front of the fender? It should be 3 to 4 inches?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I'll do an actual drawing for other's reference in a minute but the first hole is centered 1 7/8" from the front edge (same level as trim) and 4 5/8" down from the top edge

the next hole is 9 1/8" away and 5 1/8" from the edge.

Last hole is 5/8" from the back edge and again 4 5/8" from the top edge. 6 total holes

should be able to mark the two end ones and run a straight edge/tape between them if you're planning from the paint.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

DANG, I'm gone to the soccer fields for 2 hours and there are 10 posts!

Thanks so much for the diagram!!! Next time though, could you color code each screw hole for me??????

I just checked another door and my bed front and both are 13.5 inches from the center of the upper trim hole down to the body line (a 13.5 inch white stripe). Is this correct too? I think this works out the same also on the rear of the fender. I don't want to paint it twice!!!

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I got the hood done tonight, and all was going well until I had a couple of critters decide to join in the fun. I got one out with the tweezers, but the other was just a little guy. He got painted over on the 4th coat, but that one I laid on a little too heavy and created a signature on the front edge. Friday I will wet sand the run and my little friend's paw prints and shoot one last heavy - but run free- coat and call it done. While I am wet sanding with 400 grit I will use my block and knock down the orange peel so the last coat will turn out really flat. My goal all over will be like the 4th pic where you can almost read the writing on the fluorescent bulbs. If I can't get there by painting I can always buff it there.

Wow man, you got that last coat pretty flat. You can almost read the lettering on the light bulb. After seeing this build,it has severely diminished my fear of doing my own paint. Not only would it save me truck loads of cash, but the satisfaction of doing it yourself and doing it well has a lot more value than paying some one to do it.I think you deserve truck of the year even before its done.Nice work Drew.Yall be good

THAT'S what I'm talking about!!!! I'm telling you guys, it's not that impossible. It is certainly worth trying on a spare hood and seeing what you can do. Buy a how to video, talk to the local paint supply house, ask me, whatever!

Truck of the month would be awesome (not so sure about year), but the category would have to be "in process".

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Yesterday when I was block sanding the fenders and doors, I found some scratches and a few ripples. So last night I re-primered everybody. I'll final block today and be ready to shoot tonight or tomorrow.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I have 16" between center of the holes on the rear of my cab. And same between the paint on my fenders.

Not sure of the paint line as mine is all white

Maybe someone else will know where the break should be (center of holes or top of trim)

I got 13.5 to the body line, I don't have any parts with trim holes top and bottom to measure between the holes.
