Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

McMurphy,
You did a good job on the dash and gauges. Last time I looked I looked it was in primer. Feels good when you get something done.

Yeah I just found on Coulter's build thread where I first posted that I wanted to get them, almost a year ago.

Hmmmmm interesting idea.... I would certainly not know how to contact them for that sort of thing, but to have them sponsor a future build or two I have in mind would be mighty cool !!!

You should see them in real life, I popped the seat in this weekend just to see how they would look from "there" in the drivers seat !! I am such an amature, but I like how they turned out.

Feels even better when a bunch of guys take the time to look at your work and speak up about it, so thank you for that !!

I am just a beginner at this stuff, and I still have not pulled half of the rabbits out of my hat yet on this build.
Just think of what I will accomplish on my next one !!

*****************************************************************************************

Ok since there will come a day (less than a year now) that I will have to leave (escape) Alaska, I would like to see all the stuff I am not going to be using, and not going to be able to take with me; go to a good home.

At this point I am pretty sure I am not going to need or use any of the guage pod stuff in this photo, so if you have a want or need for it shoot me a PM please.
Disclaimer::::: this stuff is not for sale!
I do not have a sales account here and dont want any MODERATOR woes....if you need it, it is yours.

On the other hand.....
I really really really want another one of these parking brake gizmo-bracket (trunion?) to finish up my p-brake set up!
If you have one lying around you dont want or need please let me know!

Also it seems my stock wiper control has gone AWOL, so if you have a 66 era one in a tool drawer someplace soaking up grease and dust, please let me put it to good use!
I have torn my garage up 3 times now looking for mine, and no luck.

Anyways, thank you all again for your gracious comments, and taking the time to look at my junk !!

Thanks Clem, and thanks for checking up on me.... Yeah it is actually warm enough to feel the sunshine on you now. I think today we were rocking +26 degrees, almost warm enough for this stuff to start melting!! I think a couple more weekends of skiing and that will be it for the season this year....
Which now that I think about it, that is part of the bummer up here, the winters are so long and the window you have to enjoy it is so small that it does not balance out for me. 9 months of winter, and only 1 or 2 of them where you can get out and have fun in it is not much of an exchange.

About the goves.... yeah having to back off the vice because I got a glove finger tip in it, or some such is annoying; but then when the grinder takes off a patch of glove, or the slage melts off a bit of the glove instead of skin....it makes it all worth while.
That, and it takes me less than a minute to clean up at night.

**************************************************************************************

You guys that hit me up for dash cluster stuff, sorry for the delay.
I put that stuff in the top most shelf in the darkest corner of the garage, evidentally because it took me a long time to find it again !!
The good news is those packages went out today, so hopefully you will get them soon-ish-er-like possibly.
Dang.... I just realized I should have sent them as Santa, so you could show your friends there really is a Santa in North Pole by the post mark, and that he has crappy penmanship !!!

Well the complete wrap around did not work out, sorry to say. I have plans of mounting fire extinguishers in those cab corners, so just closing them off was not going to be much of an option. I think the way it turned out is going to be plenty good enough for me....... for now........ for this time...... bah, whatever.

I think I am still too young for NOS buddy....
That would be like handing a bag of cherry bombs to a 13 year old and then leaving him alone for a couple of days with a lighter...

**************************************************************************************

After getting off 24 hour duty this morning at 0600; I cannot say I got much done today. I rose like a zombie from the dead just before noon and got into the garage a couple hours later. The older you get, the more ready you are to pass out at a decent hour each night, and trying to stay up pulling all nighters is certainly a thing of the past !!

Anyways.....
I am about finished with the back panel job.
Here it is after I added a stiffner ring of 18ga sheet steel for the sub to ride on. And too you can see my "Coulter Trim" I added as well. If any of you guys dont think you inspire me, well ....... here is certain proof !
Name: 25feb13 back panel.jpg
Views: 607
Size: 45.2 KB

Soon after that I built the baffle for the back of the speaker out of foamboard. I was going to cut and weld it out of more sheet metal, but.... not this time.
Then I welded it in.
As a stiffner for the whole panel I used the hood support frame that I cut out with the donor metal (hence the pattern of spot welds in the paint).
Name: 02mar13 back panel welded in.jpg
Views: 607
Size: 30.8 KB

Here it is all herculinered in.
I shot some video of the process, I hope it helps someone else in the future as it seems to have really worked out for me !!
I just have to edit the vid now for you guys.
Name: 10mar13 back cab panel Herculinered (1).jpg
Views: 610
Size: 58.7 KB

And today I mostly only got the masking off the stiffner ring, and got it painted. Then got the masking off the Coulter-Trim and getting it ready for paint to match the rest of the cab.
You may notice the larger diameter lenght of Coulter-Trim on the top edge of the back panel and the bottom of the cab wall. Not only does it tie in the two panels, but will also add to the whole design motif that the cab has taken on.
Name: 10mar13 back cab panel Herculinered (2).jpg
Views: 609
Size: 72.4 KB

A little bit of touch up, mounting the capacitor and amp, then it is just a matter of wiring the sound system in and I can check this step off the list !!

Thanks for looking guys! Hopefully I will get the video done here shortly !
