Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks DW and mcbassin.
For just cleaning it up (non-show quality), I think it's turning out nice.
Can't believe it's been 2 years though. The winter months really cut in.
We put the pass. side door weatherstrip on today. We used a 3M ws adhesive.

1st pic: Something shinny (premature I know) - SS door sill plate.
Decided to not paint the rubber floor mat just yet (maybe down the road).

1) Applied a coat to the jamb, 2) then some to the weatherstrip itself, 3) affixed and taped.

Precision brand weatherstrip (same for windshield)

@mcbassin: If I were allowed to go back and edit my build thread and remove a lot
of unnecessary banter, I would. It'd be better.

Not at all, you have a bunch of helpful information. That's best kind of thread. Also, 2 years that's not long at all. I've been on my going into 4 years. Not even close to done.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Great job on the weather stripping. I think I'll switch mine back to stock type later on when it's closer to driving.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks. We'll see tomorrow if the weather strip stayed put.
Mike, I wouldn't mind deleted some of the paint and muffler comments mid-way through.
It'd clean the thread up and make it a little more neat (step by step) with the pictures and direction.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

I say "Unexplained" because we're not sure how it happened. Just found it like that. Thinking maybe the parts cleaner was used on some parts (diff project), then the blast cabinet was used. The cleaner ate/melted the glove (when not in use)? Evidently not the same rubber material as the parts cleaner gloves.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Got the vinyl cleaned up on the bench seat. Turned out nice (considering). Brightened up quite a bit. The only cleaner I could find local and suitable was Mothers VLR.

@oldman3 is there a preferred brand of upholstery (fabric) cleaner that you'd recommend if I wanted to try and clean the fabric inserts myself? Or should I wait and have it professionally cleaned?

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

I'm a little concerned with the age of the fabric and scrubbing it if that's what's required. Should I be? Would that type of cleaner dry it out over time?

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Seems ok on the OG seat in LBT, and I scrubbed the hell out of it. I'd say go light and damp and see where it goes. Good luck!

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Decided to just try and clean it up a little myself. Went and bought some cleaner.
Light and damp (just wiped it off with cotton towel, a little scrub action) 10-4

Here are some before shots (no after shots, yet).

It did something
I only cleaned one insert (bottom/passenger).
The whole towel ended up looking like this:

Patching the driver's fender:

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks! All of my pictures are stored off-site (different domain) and linked to.
I don't upload pictures directly to this site. I notice they had maintenance the other
day here on the site. Maybe something went wrong.

Sorry to hijack Litew8.

I use photobucket to upload mine to, resize them then copy and paste the links in my posts. Photobucket used to be awesome, but they redid their site recently and it really sucks now!
