Just make sure you do it with the garage doors open and a fan blowing thru the cab... it didnt make me dizzy (cause it was too cold outside to do that open door stuff) but man were my eyes bloodshot and burning !!

Have you thought about the second option and going at the tabs and unnecessary bumps and dingies with a carbide grinder and a little flap wheel action? I saw it done on one of those hot rod / you can do it type shows where they smoothed out a pair of standard cast iron manifolds and they came out looking pretty nice!

But again, what's money compared to the cool factor?

Yeah well the money is not so much an issue, but an allocation thing.
We bought a back hoe last summer and I have been diverting as much of the cash flow as possible towards that, and my son's recent visit.

mike, i like the first ones for ram horn style manifolds, i think they look cool! but the second set you priced you can grind the extra metal and smooth them out a lil add a lil paint and make them look better then stock!! ive seen it done before and they dont look bad, but that totally up to you!! and the cab floor looks really great, i'm thinking of doing the aluminum peel and seal stuff you can get at lowes and home depot! i got stuff i need to do to my truck but being sick is not helping me any!!

I surely do like those first ones too, but when I am looking at $700 for guages alone, it is hard to keep pounding the checking account for "fluff stuff" for lack of a better term... LOL
I think I am going to go with the Peel and Seal as well, I just gotta get out to Lowes and take a look at it.
I have a sample of FatMat at the house to compare it with before I make my final decision.

But time will tell... I may yet cave in to my vanity, wallet be damned !!

Right now I am finishing up a status/how to vid on my transmission hump door, and getting my dash extension finished up.

I can remember going to swap meets yrs back and seeing exhaust manifolds for Corvettes.

This may be of some interest.
Free'er flowing exhaust.
On the header issue of sounding tinny. And not trying to knock your hot rod buddies, Hooker and Headman (and others i guess) have some headers made out of thicker material along with being coated. Coupled with some deeper tone mufflers you can have a nice deep tough tone.

Pretty much...yeah.
A while back I found some guaged from Autometer I just totally fell in love with.
I think I am going to make my own guage mount face too.... hopefully something really spiffy!!

That burning snow flake came from when I was in Germany and our unit was going on a week long ski trip down to the Bavarian Alps. Our Commander kept saying it was going to be Ski Hell week, and the image of actually skiing in Hell came to my mind, where it was so hot that the snow flakes would actually go down in flames....
In my mind I call it the Flaming Snowflake, to write that or say it out loud seems to make dubious references to alternate lifestyles that I am not prepared to contemplate, sooooooooooo Burning Snow.

If all you needed was a good SSG, I could certainly be that for you.
I am a 68D = Surgeon's Assistant/Operating Room Tech.
In the 80s I was a 16R = Short Range Air Defense Artillery Gunner on the M167A1 Vulcan.
Come next August when I (hopefully) start clearing this place I will only have one year left.
Unless they pick me up for SFC......

Ok ....I got the dash extension idea from 65 old school, his is orange, pinstriped, and has AC vents in it, and turned out sooooooo cool looking that I could not help but be inspired !! You can see it here:

So for me it all started with cutting a donor piece of sheet metal out of the most incredibly ugly green fleet side pick up (Thanks Ddubs !!) and taking it home, making my infamous patterns, and cutting, beating, bending, tweaking....oh yeah, we call that "massaging" around here.

At that point it looked like this:



That was 13th of May, and by the 28th it looked like this:




and a quick mock up, and it looked like this:



After that it was set aside to make way for more orderly items.
Finally after I installed my engine, and pulled it back out again (where it still sits waiting for some attention), I decided it was time to finish SOMETHING instead of just pinking away at odds and ends. At which point is when I started to "finish out" my cab.

In the mean time I had gotten a bit more savvy to some of you guys skills and tricks, as well as more tools and as I work my way down from the ceiling in the cab, it was finally time to bite the bullet and either install the dash extension or chuck it.

Oh ... but wait .... wouldnt it be much easier to work on if it wasnt in the cab yet?
Yes, and that decision added on a lot more backwards planning on my part.
Then we dug in...
First thing after making sure it was as straight as we could get it, was to weld an addition backing plate to the inside of the thin body sheet metal. My reasoning was due to the fear that some of the controls I was going to be mounting in it would warp it with weight and vibration.
Then it was a matter of planning the placement of the controls, which side of the steering wheel, what order, and spacing.
I started with the p-side of the steering column, and came up with this:



I made up a dummy test panel to see how the Slugger Bits I got were going to perform for my needs.
This turned out to be a critically good move, as the holes were all aligned and spaced very nicely dead center of the spaces needed by the controls to be installed, and level.
What I did not take into account would be the appearance of the control knobs, and how they would play into all this.
As you can see in this mock up:


After seeing this, especially in the photo, I spaced each of the controls from the 4-way flashers out an additional 1/4".

With the new spacing, everything looked orderly and balanced.
I also cut in my stereo hole, as well as welding in a support bracket for it to help with stability for the stereo.
I was just going to have one cigarette lighter, but in this day and age, where my GPS runs off one, we charge our cell phones off them, I just decided to have two.



Then it was time to plan out the d-side:

"Weld a little, grind a little............ Weld a lot, grind-for-freeking-EVER !!!!!! AAAAHHHHHAGAAGGGGGGGG"

Well by luck or foresight, as you see I welded up the shorter p-side of my dash extension first. This turned out to be fortuitous in that it was easier to manipulate into being mostly vertical according to my level. I realize this is subjective in regards to the stance of the frame, but it still gave me a good reference, and base by which to mount and align the longer and harder to wrestle d-side addition.
This piece of angle iron I used help to keep me on a track of sorts.


When doing this stuff I have to constantly remind myself that "being dead on straight" is not the same as "looking like it is straight" I think the guys that really excel in these builds are able to achieve both of those goals somehow...
So after welding comes a little bit of mud....



and more down the line.... I dont know why exactly I added those "dog ears" that continue down the kick panel from the extension. I think I just wanted to be a little off center field with this whole project....
