Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Yeah, I got some good sand from a concrete place I didnt know was around in a town next to the one I live in. Right now Im using a home made gun of sorts. Its a U-POL bedliner gun that uses the bottles, anyway, it has a metal tube that has suction to it that draws the paint up, I jsut stuck a rubber hose on the end of the tube and it works, just not that great. It gets the job done for now though so Im happy.

On a side not:
That motor looks freaking bad-ass. I cant wait to see you drive it for its first drive.

thanks for all the comments and compliments!

i need to order an oil sender adaptor from s&p(and still need to talk to them about their headers), figure out where the coolant temp sending unit goes on the head, and install the fuel system... then search for the best radiator w/ trans cooling and e-fans... little at a time! cant wait to hear her come to life

Passenger head, rear, above the spark plug is a pipe plug. Remove it, and drill and tap the head for the sensor. I am still having issues with my adapter leaking. I'm sure at some point I am either going to yank the head to drill it, or remove the A/C box so I can get an angle drill in there and tap mine.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Yeah, use the one out of the old engine. Drill and tap size will depend on what size sensor your engine has. My guess is 3/8 NPT.

If it's just under 11/16" across the threads, it's 3/8 NPT. If it's more like 7/8" or so, it's 1/2 NPT.

Looks awesome Dennis! Now that you have the engine sitting in there maybe things will start moving along. That was a big hurdle. Congrats!!!!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I bought an oil press adapter from Autometer, through Summit Racing. They are on ebay for $12 plus shipping. Link...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-L...Q5fAccessories

I also hear you can use this and not use an adapter that might leak.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-S...Q5fAccessories

Theres also this so you have all the adapters you ned

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Oil-p...Q5fAccessories

Hope it helps. Engine looks killer.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thanks John! yes it was a big hurdle as i know you understand! i hope to keep things going at a steady pace. 1 good thing i realized today... i work all earlys now so i am home to get the packages before Amy! out of sight out of mind

awesome links Josh! thanks man! 1 thing though, i had oil cooler lines on mine so i will need the block off plate either way. maybe i can get Larry at spp to get me a block off plate and then just get the adaptor in the 1st link. ive read alot on this and never really understood FOR SURE that the ls ecu needs the oil pressure sensor?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

LS engine does not NEED the oil press sensor signal. I bought my block off plate from Nook & Tranny on EBAY. Heres the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-L...Q5fAccessories

Again, glad to see the progress. I've been thinking all day wether or not to just strip mine down to the frame or not. I am so close to tearing it all the way down like yours.

When I first joined this site, this is the build thread that got me wanting to do a full restoration. I saved my pennies and bought an 86 4x4. Full restores are great fun but found out real quick they take a lot of time and money lol.

thanks for the link! ive been thinking.... i'm going to go this route also. only reason is because i think it will be cleaner looking and i can try to keep all the wiring on top of the motor and under the covers.

Bob, i got your text... we had company over for dinner so i couldnt get back to you. i understand now thanks!

now Josh! if there are things that you just cant live with or you feel like "its just not right" then tear her down. 6 bolts on the bed, 4 for the cab, etc..

but... imho id do everything i could to leave that cab on there! i know it would be easy for me to suggest and fun for us all to watch you tear your truck down but seriously dude from friend to friend... i wouldnt do it. once the cabs off its an entirely different ball game. you have to do certain things before you do other things and its just a big snow ball if your going to do it 'right'. dont get me wrong... its been fun and i'll do another and i wouldnt change a thing but you really start missing seeing her all together let alone hearing the big 6.oh run.

it would be cool to see another frame off LSx though!

sweet... i just ordered the block off plate and adaptor. i hope it clears the firewall! hey on a side note check this out Josh... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...72268975900409 kind of pricey but it would probably do in a pinch.

I wonder if the Blazer guys want trucks as bad as us truck guys want Blazers? That is what I want next except I want 2...one laying body, and 1 in the clouds.
