Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

WOW! If that went for 31k on Barrett Jackson then I need to finish and sell mine. Custom interior, nice wheels, and nice paint. Then there is no ac, underskirt engine with zip ties holding hoses together, and really, no radio? I need to build a few of these and Ivan retire!

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Hello, I don't think I have posted mine on this thread yet... its a 1970 Suburban 2wd. I'm the second owner and I snagged it for $500. Its real solid and has minimal rust in the rockers. Doors shut real nice, rear wood floor is very nice still and it has one dent in the passenger side fender. My plans are to convert it all to 5-lug, Porterbuilt cross member, and bag it. I'll probably go with an factory mustard yellow/creme 2 tone color.

I wish mine had the trim. Mine was about the same color as your originally... the owner said it was repainted in the 80s.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

Here is a pic of my 70 burb. It's from my phone sorry about the quality. I just had it painted, it's got a rebuilt 350 and an auto trans, it sits on twenty inch wheels, has tinted windows and is lowered about three inches. I'll try to get some better pics later
Edit: I also have chrome front and rear bumpers coming for it.

I saw that on CL last year. Didn't know it was still for sale. Should be a fun 4x4 for ya.

71gmcburb: I thought about checking out your 'new' 'burb when I saw it on CL, but just never got around to it. Looks like a good project.

I just picked up my '68 'burb this past weekend. I planned on chopping it up to make a quad cab on a newer truck chassis but after cleaning out the interior, removing all flooring materials and washing the truck I noticed how nice this 'burb actually is. I might just sell it and go buy a parts 'burb.

Hey guys n' gals, in case you didn't notice. There is a new place to put your Suburban build, so if you have a build thread already set up then hit me up and I will move it to it's proper place.

If you are thinking about starting a build thread, then by all means start one in the burb build section so all of us can share in your new endeavor! Exposure like that only helps in getting things figured out for you, and I find that it supplies interest and motivation when you begin to feel overwhelmed! We Burb fans know exactly all to well, that the sheer size of a Suburban can get overwhelming at times.

Check it out!

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Burbans!

This is my orange and white 1970 'Burb, and my dads 70 Burb. I drive mine every day... and it is as practical as any vehicle on the road.

You can see more pics of mine on the Classic Trucks website @
http://rides.classictrucks.com/ride/...ban/index.html

A little bio info on my orange and white one...
This is a 1970 Chevrolet Suburban 3-door sitting on a 1999 3/4 ton Suburban chassis & drivetrain. I sold my 2006 SUV last year to make this my daily driver. And while the term "daily driver" is tossed around when a car has some issues, the pictures do not do this truck justice. It looks better in person, than in photos.

I have three kids and I wanted an SUV that was comparable to my wifes '09 Dodge Grand Caravan in "practicality", but suited my desire to have a one of a kind retro "Daily Driver/Weekend Cruiser".

The Suburban drives like a new truck and includes all of the modern "goodies" like fuel injection, anti-lock brakes, limited slip rear differential and a 5.7 liter 350 c.i VORTEC V8. Everything under the hood is a mix of old and new...even down to the inner fenders which were merged. The core support is from the new truck and includes the radiator, coolers, and shroud. If you were looking under the hood, you would swear you were looking at a new truck. But it still has the retro look of a classic '70 'Burb. Thanks to the attention to detail by restorer, Gary Rettig.

Yep, that's right...I did not do all of the work. (see reference to 3 kids) But, I have completed most of the interior work.

The modern upgrades are not limited to the drivetrain and running gear. Interior upgrades include 3 rows of leather seats out of a 2005 Suburban, including heated 5-way power lumbar seats for the driver and passenger seat. The old guages have been upgraded to a Dakota Digital Dash system, and it features a Vintage Air System modified to accomodate the modern VORTEC engine A/C components. The interior has been fitted with a custom headliner with overhead console/speakers & head unit. I have also fabbed boxes to hide the rear spare on the right side, and storage on the left side. I made every attempt to give everything a "could have (or should have) been stock" appearance.

The audio system includes a 8 speaker stereo system with a HD Radio/CD player w/ Ipod Interface & Sirius Satellite radio, and a 12.1" rear seat flip down flatscreen tv/dvd player "for the kids".

It is riding on Goodyear Eagles with 20" Ultra Motorsports 8x165 rims. On top of all the creature comforts, it will tow 10,000 lbs.

All of the exterior trim/chrome is brand new and it is a real head turner. The paint and bodywork was completed last summer, and the interior has been coming together over the past few months. It still has a few upgrades I would like to complete before I will be happy.

Engine:
Vortec 5.7 V8 w/ SFI
255 HP @ 4600 RPM
330 LB-FT @ 2800 RPM

Estimated Fuel Economy:
Vortec 5.7
City 14
Highway 18

-special thanks to Gary Rettig of Wadesboro, NC for his quality work in completing the body swap and restoration, Mikes Automotive Electric & Kustom in Mooresville, NC, Rutter's Rod Shop in Hickory, NC, LMC Truck for their QUALITY restoration parts, Detroit Speed & Engineering (here in Mooresville) for Vintage A/C parts and Chevrolet for realizing my dream SUV before I was even born.
