I'd hate to do the wiring all over again! It's not so much the wiring of it, it's the time when connecting the battery! Like, I hope I don't see smoke coming out of the fuse box kind of worry!

Is that any specific EZ wire kit or other? maybe I missed that earlier.......

It is the EZ 21 circuit that comes with the GM column connector,late model alternator fuel pump in tank, A/C, radio, etc. wiring that you do not get with a stock replacement one. I got it on sale so the price for the larger size wasn't that bad. Some of the circuits I am not using and will keep coiled up in the dash for future, others will be used for the trailer connector 12v, aux and electric brakes, extra light circuits, etc.

21 circuit was over kill for me. But I guess it's always good to have just in case. I could have used a 3 circuit .haha

5.5 hours today wiring, with the help of my OCD granddaughter who loved it, she kept things organized and neat during this part of the process. Here is how I did this part. Slide the table over. Drill the big grommet hole. Mine is in the fender well so I can run the back and light harness under the inner fender and then inside the frame rails. Push the back section thru, then the front. Have the under dash stuff coiled, then as you push the fuse panel up into place have your helper continue to pull the harness thru the firewall. Bolt up the harness and start organizing the under dash stuff. I ran the starter wires across under the dash and thru the wheel well on the passenger side. Then dome light and ground (had the old wires to use as pull wire!), a/c wiper cigar, dash bezel, light switch and column connectors. Only backtracking was pulling the glove box. Now its on to connecting everything up.

You'll be staring at that wiring so long you will be dreaming about it. On some custom wiring jobs in the past I literally had nightmares... Having OCD definitely helps when it comes to wiring!

Thanks guys, I have wired this thing in my sleep half a dozen time too! After reading a comment while researching the AC wiring, I reread the EZ instructions and side notes one more time. Picked up a couple of things (fusible link and ammeter wiring) that would have caused grief later on if I had not found them. Also remembered a couple of circuits I needed to add (4wd engaged light and tach/trans temp lites). Inventoried hardware and went to the store. Loom material arrived today, so I can continue on the rear and front routing. Also made a metal look like Kustombrads for the manifold area. Finally called EZ wire, got the owner/rep first time and he confirmed is wire is the exciter for the Vintage Air relays, I need to run the big red power feed.

Pulled the back section thru the loom and ran it along the frame to the back. Did the same for the front lighting section. Also did the drive side of the engine and terminated the alternator, water temp, HEI and high idle solenoid. Thought I had this organized but had to take 4 trips in two days to the store to get extra wire, connectors, etc. Also fabbed a bracket for the headlight fuses.

How about a pic of how you hooked up your alt.? Not sure if I did mine right or not. I was all worried about doing the wiring once I GOT STARTED IT WAS KINDA FUN. a LOT BETTER WITH A TEST LIGHT NOW.

Orrie, is there any way you could give us more frequent progress reports ? I need more of this craftsmanship and well thought out modifications that you always show.

Maybe quit working for a living to give yourself more truck time or something. I'm anxious to see this thing finished.

Orrie, from looking at the pic of your alternator I think you need to change your wiring. I'm using an EZWire 21 ckt like you are and when I wired it like you have yours the engine would not stop when I turned the key off. I removed the jumper that went from the main alternator terminal to tab 2, and connected the white wire to tab two. Tab 1 was used on vehicles that had an alternator light instead of a gauge and is not used in our application. You want only two wires to the alternator, the white wire to tab 2 and the main wire to the battery connection.

I am curious about the alternator also..........
What make and part number is it? Looked back through your build but did not find it.
I am still contemplating on one wire or two.......seems to be lots of opinions both ways. And I am not real good with electrical.

Russell, Dave and HS – I wired it according to his diagrams, before I had the stock generator. I cannot remember where the alternator came from. I looked at it, the PN is 1100111 63A, I googled it is a pretty common Delco GM two wire model (Mine is an autolite knock off or rebuild). Is stamped Made in USA.

Russel, I will take your advice and rewire it, just to be clear, I remove the wire I show red crossed out in this photo or remove the other and attach the white to the jumper??

Yes, remove the jumper completely and move the white wire to tab 2. Here's a pic of mine.

Indeed lol. What are the 2 wires on the alt for? I have been told several interesting ideas but nothing I would call solid.
