Yeah, your bed is in great shape. I have a similar giant CB Antenna hole in my cab. Looking good.
Thanks Dug224!

The bed is in great shape!
I think you have more work on your bed
The hole was 2", I think for gas filler, altough it was a bit low...
Who's using CB antennas nowadays? Must be from the 70's or 80's?

Only did a little primer today:

See if I get the time to spray the rubber undercoating tomorrow...

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Had a little time in the Hot Rod Shed.

First sad news, our shop dog has passed away. She had a very good life with the owner. She was an original Blond Labrador and reached 14 years old.
R.I.P. Laila.

It's hard, but work goes on...
Had my son help me put the bed on. It's beginning to look like a truck again

I think of making the gas and propane filler where I marked the square on the bed.

Tonight I put the cross sills in and bolt them down:

Now I can route the propane lines, hang the exhaust, finish the truck

Here you see how I routed the exhaust

The propane tanks are nicely under the bed

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks a lot guys!!
Laila wasn't our dog, but of the owner of the property I'm having the truck at.
But I've known Laila her whole life, since she came there. Beautiful dog, always happy when I arrived!
Yeah, will miss her.....

Didn't work on the truck these last days, have some brain issues to deal with
Hope Monday will be a good truckday...

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Feeling good!
So had some things done, first I welded a drain plug in the trans pan.
I had an old engine oil pan which gave his drain plug

I also made bung on the lathe for a transmission oil temp sensor, welded this too in the pan:

Welded these two inside and outside to make sure they doesn't leak.
Fresh coat of paint and it's ready to go.

I want a rollpan at the rear, and want a hidden hitch reciever. So I have to make one, easy!
Made the two 90 degree angles in the metal brake and now had to come up with something to make the radius for the bottom...
I took some 3/8" straight iron and the stainless pipe I will use for the cooling pipes, and bended the future rollpan. It was pretty heavy to do, but it worked

The beginning:

As you see I have to make it in two pieces.
How I made the radius:

Well, that's it for today.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Doug and Nev68!!

Nev, unfortunatly I have no room at home to build cars....
I have a small shed behind my house where I build motorcycles, here I have the lathe, drill, TIG welder and most of my tools. On the motocycle lift is currently my old Harley which I'm building in Bobber style, it's sold. Riding motorcycles is over for me unfortunatly....
The truck is at a friends house where we built a shop just for me
The metalbrake is homebuild and is there, it's not perfect but it does its job, with a little persuation
So, I'm lucky to have two shops

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Kim, Jim and PTC, Thanks a lot guys!!

One step further....
I welded the two parts together, and ground them down so they fit the rear:

I decided to make it a bolt-in, so I made some simple brackets to hold the pan at the sides. Stainless screws will tighten the upper side.

This is how it's bolt in at the right place:

It looks better in real life as in the pics...
Now I have to think about the hitch reciever.
I want it to be hidden....
Well it is now

Have to think about making a recessed, hinged licenseplate holder, any tips are welcome!!
Maybe some hinges that are spring loaded or hinges and wingnuts...
Pictures about this item are also very welcome!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Most commonly used is the flip down plate bracket from a 70's to 90's GM car with the rear gas fill...77-96 Caprices and similar big GM cars use them, 70's Camaros and Firebirds. Spring loaded for ease of use.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Kim, Thanks you Sir!!

Eric, I've just ordered spring loaded hinges. I was at G**gle and saw those fold down plates. But as I live in the Netherlands I have to search for US cars. European and Japanese cars are no probleem. I mean at the junkyard then
I decided to make it myself, but then fold up ( more room).
Thanks for the tip!!!
