Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Spent the last couple of hrs stripping the psi harness of all the plastic wire loom...I replaced it with the cloth loom kit from psi...hoping itll look a little more older with the cloth...since I had relocated the coils, I needed to pull the coil plugs out of the injector plug harness anyway..so they would reach the new mounting location ,so it worked out good...
Plastic debris on right
Newly cloth loomed harness in left...
Up next is harness install

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Same here but it comes to a point where you just gotta jump in and say here we go. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I "think" i have found a retro harness for my panel that will upgrade the fuse block to new style fuses and all the factory connectors are already on both ends. Its just a lot of coin but coin I will gladly spend to get out of all the terminal connecting side of things. I usually realize my mistake right after I cut the wire too short. Good Luck with it

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Good luck with yours Richard...I've started laying out where I want thing to go..
And if anybody that works for PSI reads this ,would it hurt you to make the harness a ft longer...?
Or at least give the option of a short and long harness
I wanted the ecm under the seat but it's not gonna reach,,so I'm gonna have to cram it under the dash somewhere

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Hi Greg

I saw the info you posted on the "Kechi AD S-10" post (about Jeff Potter)
I just now read your complete 'Columbus Build'.
Very nice build and complete top to bottom , top notch … for sure .

Wiring - - - no body likes Wiring . It's just the next step, and, You'll do great. Plus, I really like your Front Bumper & Grille … turned out very good.
I'm in on your build (being an old 'Paint & Body guy' and owning two
53 IH 1/2 tons) … you're getting there, for sure.
I look out across the yard each day & see My Dads old truck …. so, thanks for the memories.

jim

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Started working on the fuse panel mount and decided to go ahead and install the firewall pad...used 3M 77 spray glue...you better get it right the 1st time ..theres no do overs with that...
The fuse panel mount I'm making so itll drop down for service, and disappear when its up...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I was trying to figure out a way to mount the new fuse panel so that it could be serviced but not be seen..
The IH dash doesn't hide much so heres what I came up with..
I bent out some 16ga into a few brackets...got a 6in drawer slide and some 16lb and 23lb magnets
1st pic is brackets...
2nd pic is assembled and closed
3rs pic is assembled and open
4th pic is magnet..(I would up using the 23lb magnet)

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Here it is mounted to the left of the pedal assembly..I still need to paint underdash black so thatll help hide it even more
1st pic is up
2nd pic is down
3rd pic is with dash panel in place and up (you have to nearly lay in floorboard to see it)
4th pic is pulled down for service..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Heres something I've been kicking around for awhile...when I made the radio box I made a die to press the reccess panel in the front of the enclosure...it got me to thinking and wondering if I could make a "IH" die..
Well I started fiddling round and heres what I came up with...
Pic 1 is the punch and die...
Pic 2 is it and a test piece I did...
Then I held my breath and did it for real...I punched a IH in both sides of the radio enclosure
I figured if International put their logo on everything, I'd just do the same...
I was gonna have to repaint it anyway...maybe itll look ok when painted..
Pic 3 and 4 are in the radio enclosure...did one on each side..
If ida made this before I did the recess I woulda just did the IH in the front ...
