Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

A real update. Fit the doors, primed the fenders and some assembly.
Ready to edge the fenders tomorrow.

This piece was bandaged up too. Welded/fab

Some holes on driver's fender I hadn't noticed before Oh well.
Maybe I'll put some mud flaps on some day

Zinc Black Chromate Plating. Looks good enough

Check out the engine reflection on the hood underside.
Looks like dirty harry may have put the pinstripe there for a reason.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Need some advice.
Do you think we should paint the whole cab (fenders, hood, etc...) first? And the bed separate.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

From what I've been around, as long as you mix the paint together and spray part of the truck, then save the paint, you should be fine. I know guys that paint piece by piece and you would never know it. But they are way better painters than I .

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks Ryan Lots of painting left, trying to figure the best approach. Sure seems like a lot more metal going back on than it did coming off

p.s. No cicadas were inttentionally killed in the photo shoot above. The cicada killer wasp must have gotten him before the raid got it.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

A lot depends on type of paint, non-metallic or metallic. At least for me. Non-metallic I've done piece by piece and no problems. With metallic I try to spray the fenders, doors, hood and cab the same day. Then bed, fenders tailgate, etc. the next. My luck with metallic is bad piece by piece on different days, even with the same can of paint, just a little difference in pressure or distants from panel has made a difference....Jim

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks Jim Didn't edge today, just scuffed the fenders.
I might seam seal some areas of the fenders first. Undecided.

Picture of how the camera sees my bench seat. You don't see the brown
area shown here when looking at it without the camera. But, this small
area is actually/partially due to the fabric beginning to fray.
The driver's side is a lot worse, but none of it has actually split, yet.

Spotted this while out and about town today. Sits nice.

Edged and cleared the fenders. Turned out great!
Taped off some areas and shot 3M undercoating.

In an order:

Over spray specialty tool used for fender undercoating

Hood underside scuffed, spot primed and taped off.
Ready for some 'chassis black' (no clear) - same will be used for front wheel wells.

Done.
