Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
don't know if i ever showed this....prob would'nt interest anyone but a roofer...
being a 37 yr roofer, i had to have a tar kettle. of course nobody makes anything even remotely like a tar pot, so i scratched one up awhile ago. hardest part was the MARATHON brand decals. i cut each single letter out from the "all trademarks and copyrights reserved" on the bottom of the decal sheets they give ya... it is waaay to clean for a working kettle, but did'nt think i should dump some real tar on it...i think i may have hit on a solution though, white glue with black paint...looks very convincing |

Yeah, it's been a while, too bad about not painting the truck. All the models look good. I really like how you aged the 57. It looks great and nice nob creating the tar kettle.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, was hoping for paint this yr...but after 15 yrs, whats a few more mos...lol
my kid really, really enjoys his new quad so what the hay, i can live wit it. actually nice him having a big quad, he could barely keep up with his old one if we rode slow (polaris outlaw 90) with his new one (arctic cat 700) now he not only keeps up, he can outrun even dad's quad.... plus side is i now have wifey even pushing for me to get some paint on it next yr... did'nt get much done on my sq blazer, just the fr susp, nuttin else....cause i was playing around with my fire truck... most of the frame done. this one is box stock, no scratching, only swapped out the rims and tires cause i was missing one fr rim. took a chance they will fit and not hit....there about 3/16 taller than the stockers. plus their chrome, i notice all the fire trucks in our town have chromies as well detroit diesel 8V71 |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
our fire trucks are red with white uppers, so prob go that route on paint
stock tire next to the bigger ones jeez, should have dry fit this puppy first, i look at this and see a rear engined wheel stander...or a real smooth car hauler deck on it... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks dale!
just been dicking around on the fire truck... check out this ladder from this..... ....to this thing...right around 45 inches long part of the turntable for it. still needs the controls, handles, steps....moves up and down and rotates 360 degrees. wrapped some real scale wire around the drum got some paint on the body. took some liberties with the color, hard to tell, but it's a metallic red...just thought it looked better than RED |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
it's the way our local fire trucks are painted. we do have a ladder truck (actually is Engine 3) but it is much more modern than this early '70's LaFrance...i pretty much just did it how the newer truck is. the only thing i did to the kit though was to add the chrome wheels, the ladder controls (stock ones were pretty weak...) and the sign boards for the main ladder spent awhile doing the body drop tonite, and only knocked off one hand rail... coming to the final stages, cab drop (pia) sirens and mirrors and all the other stuff on a fire truck dodged a bullet, the bigger tires fit |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
It's looking fantastic! It needed the chrome wheels, I'm glad they worked out.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, the chromes look much better i think too...
45 yr old decals were pretty tuff to use, even after i sprayed decal bonder on them 3 times, they still wanted to come apart.. and the small ladders are/were warped bad...see i'm going to have to do more work on 2 of them... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
it's about 20" long, would take up waaaay to much space in my cabinets, so i'm building a case for it....my glass cutter is a cheap 10 buck jobbie...and i'm not a glazier... so i got some right angle trim to cover my joints.... grabbed this nice little board from the hardware store for a base.... ladder is dry now...if you extend the 3rd section, or don't lean it on something, it just flips the truck over....should have glued some lead or something in the compartments for counterweight.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, it's an exciting time Dale.....then the wait starts...to keep costs down, my buddy will be spreading it over a couple mos.
he'll prob need it just for the bodywork... rockers need some work, and there's about 7 or 8 dents down the pass side. hard to tell under the lights (makes it actually look better...lol) but this side is "wavy" and denty, but at least it's the worst side. dr side is good for dents, just one up on the fr fender. tailgate has dents (it's that light thing making it look good again) there's 3 dents in the back of the cab around the winda, one dent on the roof, and one dent in the hood. tomorrow i'll undo the bed bolts and put my small tires on it and take it to the shop. time to break out the wallet..lol color is woodlawn green, or forest ranger green as i call it. ex-forest service truck, orig paint, been looking at buddy's color charts, he's got some nice greens in there...maybe just a tad darker with some metallic-ness in it...not a 100% sure, but it will be some shade of green |

ya, kinda leaning to the forestry green myself, hardly any type of trucks around here that color....drove it all stripped down to buddy's shop the other day, with no flats...you should see the MASSIVE cracks by the bead in one of my rollers-totally expected to get a flat. going down there tomorrow, i will get a pic of it, you will crap yer pants when you see it.. blazer should be done in a couple more days... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
finally finished the blazer....
almost a waste of a kit..lol used just the 3/4's, part of the frame, and the int tub. cab and front clip are from the revell hot rod truck, seats from a '99 silverado, and the big block is built from parts from the spare box... prob be the last big 4x4 build for awhile, once again our dollar is in the toilet, and my resin caster just doubled(!) his shipping rates again...a $1.25 t-case is now $22.50 delivered to my door...nope, not likely.... wife found a few more cars at a garage sale, plus i got a tow truck and another '66 sub in the stash. i do have 2 t-cases left, no more big tires, so thinking a stock 4by build on the sub....maybe time to brush up on a few cars as well.... couple more vettes, a '56 and a blah-ferrari, euro trash.... |
