Re: My 52 GMC Build
Your truck looks very cool, Lower!!!
Like how the pinstriping is done, the combination beween the traditional striping and scrolling looks very nice. I bet you have a lot of fun driving it at last CONGRATZ!!!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Full throttle pull from 60kmh(37mph) to 106kmh(66mph)
http://vid51.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7u2rhk0u.mp4 So I was driving it around again today all over the city. I now have over 60mi on the truck and only 2 issues both with the transmission went and talked to my trany guy. 1. It runs too warm (need more cooling) not a big deal. 2. Reverse gear slips too much. He told me a bunch of stuff to check so hope its not to bad. But if those are my only problems I'll take it. Going to my friend Joe's work tomorrow to look it over and first oil change.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Bob, your GMC looks great going down the road! Too bad you didn't cruise down to the swap meet in Rockton on sunday. I was speaking to the guys that organize the Unfinished Nationals. They tried to sell me last years t-shirt... but I think I'll wait until the new ones come out.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Well John Unfinished show last year was the first show I took my truck too. This years Unfinished will be the first show I drive it too!! Also I'm not ready to drive it that far quite yet, but soon.
Tonight I took it on the highway across town 6mi at 60mph is 2400rpm. I went to Joe's work to put it on the drive on hoist to do it's first oil change and to look it over. Everything looks real good found a couple bolts that took 3/4 of a turn to tighten. That was about it. Got some night pics, headlights work really well they leave a pattern on the ground but nothing up and have a good cut off. I just need to adjust them up a bit. Low beam then high beam.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Thanks joe
I picked up my transmission cooler today and got it installed. I fit it just under the radiator. It is 7.5"X17" and is rated for a vehicle 20,000 GVW. So I'm running 2 coolers now. Took it for a drive this eve and all is good temp stayed at 185-190*

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Well I found a problem and it is all my fault, but lucky for me it's not that bad.
When I put the upper A arm bushings in I didn't put washer behind the nuts to hold in the bushings and I thought to myself, well what holds the bushings in? Well that was then and I found this tonight. Everything looks ok, I have to put bushing in and add a washer on all 4.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
At least you caught it before it shot out. Those E40D's definitely run warm. I use to have a huge cooler on my 97 psd when I pulled it. I had to remove the cooler in the radiator to keep the temps down when towing real heavy.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
So I started out driving around at 4.5" ground clearance. Lately I have been at my planed 3" and it is working great. I now have 185 miles on it with only a few things to work on. Saturday I got the A arm bushing back together and added washers like it should have had lol. Then went for a drive up to my Dad's cottage 1/2 hr away and where cruising at 50-60mph the whole way. Drove great at that speed bad part it was at 2400 rpm. So I'm looking at gears I have 4.10 and lowest I can get is 3.54. On part of the way home I lowered it down till we touched then bumped it up. To my surprise it rode stiffer down low. We drove at 50mph for 10min at 3/4" off the ground so cool.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Today I adjusted the hood so it is tight at the back and put in the 3rd bolt, the 2 where loose oops. Gap looks great now.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Glad you caught the control arm bushing issue before it got ugly.
I really like the picture of your truck (does he have a name?) next to the tree. Truck just has "the look". For me it is hard to describe though you know it when you see it. Sounds like some exceptional test runs happening. Congrat's! |
