funny story.... i was putting a windshield in my truck and invited a friend over to help out, we fought it for almost 3 hours and gave up. I attempted again the next evening (by myself) and had the glass in and done within 15 minutes. Haven't had any luck with the big back windows though, tried one on my dads 57 gmc and we worked at it for an hour and didn't get anywhere (it was oem glass too). |

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Wow, how can you install a windshield single handed? Seems like you’d have to have a hand on one side pressing in while pulling the rope/cord as you go along.

I had SafeLite Auto Glass come to my house and install the windshield. it cost less than $300.00 including the windshield the rubber and installation. It took a while to do, the installer called for back up. it took two guys to install it no additional cost. go to my page if you want, on page 18 line #447. My wife & I installed the small back window.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Haven't checked in here for a long while. The wheels are stunning. What size? Also love what you did with the tail lights. One thing you will never regret are the electronic cutouts. Most fun thing I do with the truck. As far as burn outs, even my modest HP kills the Hoosiers I have. Been looking, kind of, for some DOT drag radials but I haven't found any in 17" that are wide and tall enough to look good on a 14"wide rim. Keep up the good work.

A few things left for sure but has sure come a long way hasn't it, beautiful build. Be nice to just be able to turn the key and go for a rip.

Did you do a write up on your grill? I missed it. I'm wanting to do the same thing just wasn't sure how to shorten the center piece up?

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Thanks to the site - I tried to show it to the admins but they dont have time to keep up with all the issues here. So its just more lost data....
Good thing I have my own photo album of the entire build and the write ups. Cant beat good ole non-computerized know-how! In a nut shell - you have to cut off both end light pods and shorten each end 3" and then pot weld it all back together. If you are rechroming it you will need to reinforce the pot welds or they (the shop processes) will break them right off.

Well the beast is just about completed. Did a little "GARAGE SQUAD" reveal on it for the family on Turkey Day and made a few "marks" on the driveway!

Thats with the mufflers installed now. they are just bullet mufflers but they do quiet it down to a dull ROAR! I installed them close to the collectors to try and get the noise down before the cab, seems to have worked a little bit. --- The cutouts will be next.

Nowadays the law enforcement officers don't even give me me a second glance, unlike my youth when interaction with cops was commonplace. I guess it's one of the perks of being an adult...
