This is heading back out of the fog on the same road the graveyard is one. Took a little work to put the road through that spot
Actually we took two lane roads as much as possible, driving my 1957 Chevy 210 (pictured here in IL along Route 66). Once we got to Cincinnati, we took US 50 all the way until it intersected with US 219 at Redhouse MD. Worked our way up 219 and a few other roads to Bedford PA where we spent the night. Then to Hershey the next morning. Great trip.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

Another picture from "up home" when I was up last month. I get up earlier than my mom, so I'd head out every morning and explore some. The town is along the river, which is in a valley surrounded by mountains. The fog from the river was thick this morning as I took a road off the ridge that dropped part way down into the fog. An old graveyard, not town, no church, just out on the mountainside. I suppose there once was a church. Eerie yet very peaceful and quiet. They have their privacy still, after all these years

But on my way over the wooded crest, going in before the fog, an adult black bear scuttled across the road up ahead of me. It was a great early morning go get coffee round about. I ended up at three graveyards that morning. Definitely a morning of reflection. The first one was top of the hill from town, Blooming Rose Chapel, where I drank me first cup. I got pictures looking out over the valley and walked through the graveyard looking at names and dates. The oldest ones were illegible, but back to 1804 I think was the earliest. I have ancestors in that one. It was after that I saw that one in the fog. I went to the next settlement downriver, which is north into PA, for my next coffee. Confluence, PA is where three rivers converge, originally called Turkey Foot way back in frontier days. I found a spot along the river to drink my coffee. On my way back I took another turn to the river and got pictures of another old chapel with a graveyard not far from my mom's town

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

Even better. And I really like that '57 sedan. That's my kind of traveling. I wondered since that overlook is south of I-68 if you had come up 219, then figured most people would travel that far on the big roads. It's nice to not be most people, ain't it? All of 219 is a great road. I've never been north of Bedford. But Bedford is a neat and very historic town dating back to frontier times. So you must have taken US30/Lincoln Hwy east into Hershey. That's a great ride through PA.

I learned from Grumpy Old Man preferring to run the backroads is known as being a "shunpiker". I like that, one of my favorite pastimes. I'm building my (scratch-built) '67 SWB with a Muncie M22 and 3.73s as an early-70s era hot truck. Not worried about overdrive. My dream with that is to travel the country on the old roads. Point A-B with the emphasis on the "-".

A few years ago I jumped in the Sonoma my friend had lent me while we swapped an engine into my Suburban at his place. It was the weekend after labor day and he wasn't going to be home. I hadn't used the little truck but to drive home and decided to take advantage of the low fuel consumption and take a ride. The truck had PA tags, so at the end of my driveway I decided PA was the place to go. I ended up traveling west on US 30 until I was above Friendsville and meandered my way down. Had a great day, traveled 400 miles

Here's the thread I did. Lots of pictures

Great pics and a cool trip! I'm with you on the backroads, I travel them every chance I get - I enjoy seeing the small towns, historical sites, etc. along the way.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

That's what I like, going through the towns, crossroads, farmland, forests, up and down the hills, around the curves, and crossing over the rivers on old bridges at grade in the valleys. All the things the interstates left behind.

I always liked (related to) this Ozark Mountain Daredevil song:

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

That's sort of the plan for our 2016 pickup and high roof topper: just wander around and stop whenever / wherever we feel like it.

I've driven I-25 so dang many times that one day I would like to take the slow roads across Wyoming north <--> south.

Killer Bee, about 25 years ago we built a house for a retired couple named Grayum from Oak Grove. They owned a lumber yard and ready mix plant there.

CG, about the same time we remodeled the main house and built a guest house and caretakers house for a retired couple from Whidbey Island. Actually they were grew up in Colorado, made their fortune in California and still had a house on Whidbey Island.

that's really cool how you remember the people you built homes for!

the name doesn't ring a bell but there was a lumber yard behind hockmans hardware and the commercial bank..

whidbey island 2004, spent quite a bit of time around pudget on various security missions..

pictures of me not by me - just don't tell Eric

the only road on/off the island

roaded this beast from the seaplane base 10 miles across the island.. borrowed it from eod but their tractor trailer was out..

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

If I recall correctly, I took this picture near the north end of Whidbey Island in June, 2002.
