Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
after a 14 hr work day i briefly attempted to install one. first observation box was somewhat heavy i opened the box and the tubz were carefully covered in a blanket and taped across, i pulled the goods out and inspected them and they looked good i havnt fitted the bolt holes so i dont know if they will match out of the box i would imagine they need a bit of reaming to fit no biggy, as for the finish the gel coat was good, you will need to scuff them with a red scotch bright and shoot some high build, wet sand them with 400-600 and shoot youre sealer and there good to go. i invested 10 min. trying to install one, but i realized you have to remove a wheel and in order to install these you almost want to do it with the engine out, i will try this over the week end.
I am really satisfied with these tubz but keep in mind if youre installing these on a 73+ some modding will be necessary to clear hinges.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
i started on the drivers side tub install. I knew i had to modify the tubs because cutting into my fenders was not an option, i had already permanently installed some beauty panels to shave the fender and installed custom hinges that were supported by this panel. I decided tu cut the tubs to fit around the existing beauty panel and cut a section for the hinges, creating a pocket after fitting i will glass the tub this was more convenient.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
update. what has been done all this time.. after straightening all the panels i hangged the front clip and started on the panel and gap alignment, alot of hrs. and effort went into this procedure but well worth it, well i finally completed the panel and gap alignment between the door, cab, fenders and hood. It took a while but the gaps are tight and the panel transition is eaven, comparable to that of a new car.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Thanks Mike , More so than anything i would call it patient. Straight eaven panels matter to me. Procedure to under take panel and gap treatment is as follows. After having all the body straight you hang and tweak pull push panels to meet as close as posible. After this if their still off more extreme measures will be needed. On the top of the door i had to pull them out bend out rather than dolly or hammer it out, avoiding unesecary damage. From door to cab - the cab was out past in some areas so i had to cut a slot in the inner seam hammer in then weld. From door to fender i had to slap the fender to meet the door. At this point panels are starting to be eaven, so the work on the gaps begins. I used tig rod to build the gap bridge depending on the size of the gap ranging from 3/32 to 1/8. or stacking 2 1/8 rods. The idea is to have a solid steel edge so it does not fail from just body filler. after the rod is tacked in you finesse the gap. finish with filler and then you block the panels keeping a consistent transition, this is easier said than done, if its not right you keep layering and sanding. you then come back and sand in between the panels making the gaps eaven i use a wood mixing stick with stcik it sand paper. This is the procedure, the more hrs. you invest the better the results, shops charge up to 2-3K for this just so you get an idea of how long this takes.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Strange thing is I thought I had the panels and gaps done , i took some time off from this so i wouldn't self consume, and the more i looked at the truck the more flaws i saw i was like wtf am i seeing ****, especially on the panel transitions and gaps, so i came back and had to rework this, but i am finally satisfied
