Re: What did you do to your truck today?

It took longer than I thought it would but if it don't leak it's done. I got lucky and did not have to loosen the motor mounts and jack the engine. The pan dropped out cleanly. I used Permatex Right Stuff to place the gaskets and seals on the pan. While it set up I cleaned the block. Had to go to Schucks for a couple items including my missing gasket scraper. I had to improvise because they did not sell scrapers, although they had a hell of a deal on mini bikes, chinese generators and ****ty chrome dress up parts. With a little care the pan went back up without goofing up the gaskets or seals. I opted to put two small bolts in the center on each side first then the rest. I had big trouble getting the four large bolts started on either side of the rubber seals front and back. I finally realized that the seals were not compressed so I tightened a couple center bolts. After using a screwdriver to align the bolt holes I got the last four in. That only took and hour. As per the directions of the sealant I snugged the bolts and am waiting the suggested one hour before I tighten the bolts the rest of the way. There was a lot of sludge in the pan. I ran a magnet around and came out with a split washer on the end. I did not find a bolt though. It did not appear anything was missing from my view underneath. I suppose it could have been dropped through an oil port from above? I guess I'll just forget I saw that? I have a vague memory of dropping and never finding a washer from the timing chain cover. I think I know where it went. It was chrome and did not appear to have been in there very long. The culprit of my leak was the front seal. You can see the twist in it. I'm going to let the sealant cure for 24 hours which means I won't be putting oil back in it today. Next thing will be to bend new brake lines. My '63 is an outdoor project so its all weather permiting.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finished up my shifter. Had the rods on the wrong arms. I had to get my wife out to run it thru the gears while I watched from below. She couldn't figure out why I kept calling her Linda (AKA Vaughn)!
She didn't find the humor when I explained who Linda Vaughn was/is!

3 self tapping screws through the original rally wheel holes into the center cap. Enough room to get to the original lug nuts with an impact as well.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

If all goes by plan. This truck will be cut up into manageable pieces and the good stuff is going to be used on my 66. You know, front disc set up, maybe the rear end, and whatever else I can use. OH yeah. And a big bucket of nuts and bolts. I was going to sell that engine to someone for cheap, but they never got back to me.. Oh well..

I looked at mine for a brief second as I pulled my daily driver into the garage next to it. Haha. Its too cold here in Iowa right now and I dont have the privilege of a heated garage.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I cut some of my steel floor up & re-arranged the pieces to make room for a flush fill stainless fuel filler. I posted a cell phone pic in my build thread.

I also dropped/broke my camera .

Got my transmission and carrier shimmed to take care of a wicked vibration at highway speeds. Works great now... minus the uber low gearing in the axle that I need to replace.
