I'm sure that made your wife and neighbors happy to get rid of that

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Wow! I just went through this thread last night. What an undertaking! I've thought about attempting this myself with my 69 LWB. I could probably do the work but finding the time and money is my problem. I thought about just swapping my body over to a later model chassis, but I just don't know if I could dedicate myself to the extent you have. I have to say, for someone who doesn't do this for a living, you have a lot of skill. Maybe you should consider a new line of work. I am definitely impressed and I will be keeping up with your project. Thanks for posting all this info. Maybe it will inspire me.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Thanks, I have it easy though because the newer frame rails are wider so there is more room in between.

I have to say, you have quite a project going. I log on everyday just to see what else you've done. Very impressed with your work. It looks factory built. I only hope my 69 C10 project comes out half this good. Keep up the great work!

This is really a huge, costly undertaking......and you make it look so clean and sanitary?!?!? I love this project and will be around adding views to your thread till it's done.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
I just read your entire thread. Awesome! I love reading everything I can on those doing 67-72 crew cab conversions. It is simply amazing! Great job!
I also love the use of a newer drivetrain. I often thought how cool it would be to drop a crew cab conversion onto a newer crew cab too. Nice! God's Speed! Last edited by thor; 03-14-2011 at 02:56 PM. |

Drew,
Just read your entire thread as well. VERY NICE!!! Let me know if you need any help with anything. Be glad to. Glad those cabs were able to be used for something.

Picture Time
I made some progress on the firewall and welded in the giant grommet hole. I mounted the dummy air handler for the last time and it all works out, so I have them side by side to make the final modifications to the real air handler I am using.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
It was such a pretty day that the Lord had made, we worked outside. While I painted the exhaust with Eastwood products, I had the boys sanding down the bed with 120 grit.

Looks good. You'll have to let us know how that paint holds up.
Did you have to do anything special to prep it?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
I had to order the Eastwood version of Dynamat to insulate the firewall before I do the final install on the Air unit. It is less than half the price of most others. Something I had to do to fit the unit under the dash was move the wiper motor over about 3 inches. I'll fabricate a new arm linkage later. Prepping the firewall with Bondo since I am finished drilling holes and welding up others.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
And now for the moment of truth, will she fit????? YES!!!
Tons of clearance for the trans. and fuel lines with the high hump. Engine has at least an inch on the passenger side, way more on the drivers. Not even close to the firewall. All of the body mounts lined up and frame barely shows under the truck. Sarah had me put the seat in so she could check it out.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
More pics of the non-event...
I'll pull the cab back off again of course for paint, but I have to have it in place to set up the steering and brake booster mount.

Starting to look a little more normal.
A shot of the fresh air intake from the inside.

The metal was so rough already, I just washed it/scrubbed by hand and shot the paint.
