That might work. Before you weld it make a jig to hold the bumper at the bolt holes so it wont twist any more.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread (CLOUD 9)

I think rather than cutting it I would think reforming it would be a better idea. Meaning using your straight edge idea but no cutting just stretching it on the bottom edge.

This is better because the bumper in the forming process has a certain amount of stress built up in the steel from the forming. If you look carefully it is gradually curved throughout the length of the bumper. If you simply just cut and welded a pie shape in the middle then it would look like a pair of seagull wings, gradually curving to the middle then back down to the other side.

By stretching it I mean you would have to build an inner support so that it did not crush, then using a threaded rod on each end and a strait edge on top, screw the rods until it is beyond straight then when the tension is released and it springs back it is straight. You will have to sneak up on the straightness by slowly turning the rods then releasing them and checking, but it would be straight throughout.

Or you could save all the time and find a good old American made bumper and have it rechromed. LOL

When you have a chance could you see if you have the part number for the alternator. I might go with the same set up if i can afford it.

Justin some money lol you are right there. They are the most expensive plater in the us in my opinion. But they do a great job but man 5500 to do a 36 grille seems really out of control high.

from my measurements it starts diving down right on the drivers side of the tag bracket that is why i was thinking about cutting it there and lifting it up ?
but the original bumper would be the best idea i am sure !

I have about 4,000 pictures of '67 -'72 Chevy pickups in my computer. Among them are 75 rear views, almost all of the rear bumpers are the same as yours......

Congrats on the ink!

Does this look straight? This is jonmc56 truck (Jon's 69 CST Build). You might aks him where the bumper came from.

well I was hoping you'd latch on to a straight one somewhere, and I'd get that old bent stuff out of your way!
