Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got the Alt wired up, using a one set up, so I do not have to use the Alt. exciter wire.

Doing this for the first time by ones self sure takes time. Read it three times to do it once, then stop in the middle read it again just to make sure. Got two wires left on the engine side, Starter and solenoid. Got to wedge my big self under the truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

well spent 5hrs getting passenger door to open( that only took about half hour) and pulling gas tank out to try and clean it out. pulled out sending unit and it was so encrusted around pickup tube it was about the size of my thumb cant even see a hole in end of it. below pic is after i knocked crud off(still bad). so i then put a 1.5' piece of log chain down in tank and shook the hell out of it and washed it out with hose..blow pics is the crud that came out...ya think this is part of the problem why it wont start....

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Put some paint on my repop bed panel and wheeltubs, along with a set of cross sills. Bed is just about ready to go back together.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got my bed off and set up to clean up and take apart. Of course all the bolts just spin when I try to get them out. I see a lot of grinding in my future. At least most of the wood aand strips are already out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got most of the frame cleaned up and painted. I went with rattle can cuzz I'm thinking about a body off rebuild next year so why waste 40 bucks worth of por15. And BTW that goofy exhaust is going in the trash this week while I have the bed off.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I used mine for the reason it was invented today...I hauled a bunch of stuff out of our house to our storage unit so we could sell our house. Glad to have the truck on days like these...even hauling stuff was fun!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Fabbed up some pieces to fix the rusted bottoms of the inner bed panels. They turned out great. Just got back in from painting them. Time to put the bed back together!

Should I just do cross sills and the perimeter wood while the bed is off (and then the wood/strips once remounted), or everything off the truck, and bolt the completed bed back on in one piece?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

We set the bed on the truck without inner fenders, kept the body loose, installed the wood from the center to the outside of the bed. Had to make adjustments in some wood widths (cut it our self)
We also did the bolting of the bed to the truck frame a little differently, never have liked the idea of the wood holding the bed on, so where possible we bolted the crossmembers directly to the frame then bolted the wood to the crossmember......I think we have a picture of this---------

http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...x8TPp&lb=1&s=A

since we were not using a pre drilled wood kit we put the bolts where we wanted them.

I'm thinking of bolting the bed to the frame then drill a hole in the bottom of the board where the head of the bolt holding the bed down could fit into. That way no bolts would have to go through the wood. It will be harder to get it done but a lot smoother look and they wouldn't work loose ever.

Changed intake/exhaust manifold gaskets on the 235. Moved oil filter to back of manifold, now it's level and off of the front header.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Bent and installed fuel line from carb to pump (I found it very hard to bend the 3/8" powder coated stuff - went to the old galvanized and that helped). Might have been the guy trying to do the bending... Then ran 3/8" from pump to tank on the other end of things.

Pressed Power Steering pulley on, routed and clamped power steering hoses (78 1/2 ton to match box). Speedway bracket on the power steering pump since it's a 64 motor without holes in the heads for mounting brackets. Decent piece and reasonably easy to work into the mix on the cheap - name of the game on this truck - or should I say practical... maybe frugal.

Figured out belt lengths after 3 trips to N@P@... 52 1/8" to alternator and 37 1/8" to power steering.

fun fun - bob

I wish mine looked that neat, I'm going to try and find a better set up You would think they would have invented a fuel resistant flex hose by now or have they and I have not stumbled across it?

Thanks JB - I used a Titan bender I picked up when I ordered the hose tabs from Speedway.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Picked up the last of my AC and Heater hoses this morning for the Caprickup. Spent some time last night finalizing the headlight wiring. Set a different bed in place last weekend for fitment and ready to start the body work on it... Install the windows and door mechanisms this weekend. I CAN SEE THE END!!!

To those that thought it would never work!!! HAHA!!!

2 weeks equals 2 months in the paint world.

"2 weeks equals 2 months in the paint world"

And in machine shop world!!

Anyways, today i painted the black lines on the door panels that i set aside months ago, and also put the insulation on the inside of the door skins. Ran out so will need to get another roll to do the inside of the door panels, and then should be done with that stuff. Then just waiting on parts to get here soon so i can do door glass, rubber, etc.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finally got the wood and strips out. I had to grind and use my air chisel to get the bolts out. I did mess up a couple of holes but nothing too bad and they won't be seen. Now to the powder coater and Ziggy's to get wood. I have all new bolts and everything should look nice when done. I'm saving all the repairs for next year when I have more money.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

always hated the black primer job on the cab and fenders. used some easy off on the recommendation of another forum. worked great, a couple areas to clean up but no more "custom black suede". took some of the factory paint down to the original black primer though

has some old fender art, I think it says "GHOST ride"
