What did you do to your truck today?

These last couple of days have been busy -

Friday I picked up the bumpers, gaurds, wheels, and bed strips from the powder coaters and they look fantastic. Sorry no pics till they are on the 62.

We ran the brake lines then re-did the 1/4" one piece tube to the rear since I didn't like the first attempt which ran back on the inside of the boxed area - added a union at the opening in the frame by the P-S engine stand and was able to run inside the boxed area of the frame to the rear hose.

Ran the 3/16th's using copper-nickel tubing and that is so much nicer to work than the other stuff... bends and flares easier plus it's purty. Brake lines are done to the proportioning valve!

Mounted the core support to the frame, then the rebuilt original radiator, then figured upper and lower hoses to the rad - had to change the water neck when I found one in my parts with a better angle).

Ran the transmission cooling lines up the P-S frame rail on the inside and clamped them in parallel to one another up to the filler panel area where I can cut them and start the hoses to the cooler.

Mocked up the Flex-a-lite cooler and Gator Clips for mounting... figured out where it needed to be in the grill opening, welded some fender washers to the X-brace of the core support and mounted the transmission cooler there.

Stuck my 60 grill in the hole just to see if it would clear the cooler mounted the way it is - no worries.

Made a burp-tank out of some 2" PVC and caps - but I'm not sold on it yet. Made up a bracket to hang it off top two rad mounting bolts on D-S. It's a good spot but the "tank" looks too much like a pipe-b_mb to me.

Finished welding the bottom side of the cab tunnel repairs where I had some light-leaks and primered it again with some black epoxy primer.

My best buddy and his son came over to help Ray and I set the cab late Sunday evening so we managed to get it back on the chassis before quitting time.

I went up to my shop space and picked up one of the beds I have so I could just bolt it together and put it on the truck just to make it look a little more complete. I dought I will use it in the end but I just wanted something on other then looking at the frame.

Finally got around to making the tailgate modifications and replaced the chains with a tailgate link set up. It's an old set of Mar-K links that I had laying around for several years. The hardest part was digging out my tailgate from under the pile of parts in the attic of my shop.

Finished with installing a tachometer and a refurb of my gauge cluster. Used the knowledge from several on this board to install the aftermarket tachometer, changed the ammeter to a voltmeter, and a freshening up. Also, changed the Tand'm Lock light to a Park Brake light in preparation for another mod I saw elsewhere on the forum. This place rocks. Pretty happy how it all turned out.

Since the passenger side window regulator broke this morning, I removed it and played around with it a bit and found that a '95 Ford Mustang power motor is a decent candidate for a power window conversion. I had one laying around collecting dust.
Need to fab one small bracket and will take pics and test it out tomorrow.

Also started removing the bed- previous owner installed a steel floor and not a bad job, has 3/4" tubing to correct for the wood thickness. HOWEVER, in their infamous wisdom, decided to weld the bed to the frame. luckily , it's only tacks on 4 of the cross braces. But apparently they were half blind or didn't own a tape measure- bed is off to drivers side about 1 1/2". We'll square it up and bolt it on. Also going to mount my Suburban tank permanently under the bed. it's been temporary in the bed until we test drove the EFI for a while.

Tincan66, if that works out with the Mustang window motor, that would be a great thing to bookmark for a future project. BTW, I really get a lot of good info from your posts, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

You are welcome Earl and thanks for the compliment. I like to build a lot of my own parts or at least try. Nothing wrong with the kits that are out there, just like to try myself. These window motors are $25 ea with lifetime warranty, so if the bolt in thing works, it'll use OEM regulator and retain OEM adjustments and fit. These motors are also very small, and these windows are 1/2 the size of the Mustang.
I have no grand illusions of mass producing these, but will pass along pros and cons with pics when completed.

I am also working on adapting the '88-98 Chevy truck wiper motor to the'64-66in order to use the turn signal mounted wiper/washer switch. The OEM is a constant positive with negative trigger operation, while the later model is a positive trigger. I have one working, but needs refined. Again, will post pics and pros and cons after more testing.

It's my son's 16th birthday and we have been busy working on the 62 together.

He stripped, primed, and painted the burp-tank and bracket. We reworked the DS bolt tab of the rear cross sill that had broken off at the spot welds.

Mocked up the bed box on front and rear sills only and as I feared tires rub.

It was a good day anyway -

Won top 5 out of all 60-69 trucks in Ardmore TN at the show Saturday in granddad's old truck. He would have been so proud!! My buddy's 65 C10 that was his granddad's won too!! Pretty awesome day!

Congrats! That's awesome to see y'all actually enjoying your trucks and winning too.

We tried to clean up our homemade wide whites a bit more with some 80 on the DA and went for the mount and balance on the back two to check if the 15 x 6 factory rims we just got back from powder coating with 235-75-15's work.

We got plenty of room now and shouldn't have to trim the inner fender lips.

all the front end and doors are going to swap over. the bed is already white. every piece of side trim is there (some inside the truck). super score.

Added trim rings to the new wheels.

Using the Capt's stuff for inspiration I made a booster mounting adapter plate out of 1/4" plate for my 78 burb booster/master and trimmed the top of the booster bracket down - then cleaned and primered the booster and the adapter. Blacked out the tranny cooler while we were painting

Booster sorta looks like the mother ship hovering over Youngwood.

Added mounts and hooks to the mufflers and then had to add some mounts to the frame.
Damn brake union made it less than symmetrical :-(

Tomorrow...hook up the pipes to them!

We refurb'd the brake pedal assembly, modified the push-rod combining the 62 and 78 pieces, welded the 78 pedal to the 62 brake arm, mounted the booster with the adapter plate I made and honestly if I had to do it over again I'd call the Capt on that piece! Got everything mounted up and ready for a column...

Cleaned up the cross members and got the wheel tubs off the bed. I should be getting the wood for it next week. I got all new bolts and the strips are powder coated so I'm almost ready! I do need to make a couple of small welds but no big deal.

Installed new door check on passenger side, installed half of the new firewall insulation pad, installed new headlight switch and aligned the steering wheel.

I have been working on my leaking steering gearbox, so dissasebled the thing and installed new seals. Next step is to go and pick up a 70s steering column that I got from a friend
