Re: What did you do to your truck today?

(repost from my build thread..)

...been awhile since I've worked on the 'burban.. So--my motivation level is up and spread amongst my '61 Biscayne, '48 Ford and the old 'Burb.. I spent a bunch of hours today plug welding various holes drilled over the past 48 years on the interior floor and panels.. I then decided that there was no way to make the "cut-outs" on the rear roof gutter area look good. So--I set out to repair them. They ended up looking really good--I'm very happy. I considered this to be a pretty difficult repair due to the need to MIG so close to the body-roof seam without getting any stray boogers stuck in the seam, while satisfactorily making the repair. Here's the before and after. (Passenger and Driver's side were hacked the same..)

And after..

Now--I'll have to put new drain slots/holes in.. What are they supposed to look like and if anyone has a picture to display their approximate location-please post it here.

This is the front A-Pillar drain..

And-the drain hole/slot above the first side window..

Arghhh, I need a pole barn!

I swapped in my new front bed panel, and installed my bed wood flange pieces.

Got the cab high build primed - a few spots I'm unhappy with on the back of the cab - but keep telling myself that once the bed is on who in god's name is going to see it lol

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I installed my new chrome mirrors, chrome outer door handles and lock cylinder, new door control and removed the grill and bumper.. Was going to install the new chrome grill and bumper but my headlamp wiring is getting old so I decided to upgrade that first.. This pic is grill/bumper removed

Not today but over the weekend.

Drove about 350 miles on 97 litres of fuel to a car show towing my teardrop trailer.

Thanks robber - sanded down the firewall and the interior and put down some color - trying to decide if I want to go with the classic white on the top of the cab.

White would look real sharp with the color you selected. Very nice.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Short report.

Took the Truck and Grizz-Pod to the Retro Rides Gathering '13 the past weekend.

Left by 09.00 on Friday morning, got there by 14.00 which included about an hours stpping along the way for coffee and relaxing.

At the show, Tim my mate who also drives a '74 Chevy camper truck gave me this rev counter for the truck.

Friday night after BBQ this was the view in the camping field.

On Saturday Tim was off to do some shopping, on his return he did some maintenance, almost disappearing into the engine bay.

I left the show before 2pm on Sunday as I had to detour to pick up a pillar drill I had bought a couple of weeks ago in Buckingham.
I had collected some spare seats for Nicola's MX5 which moved into the teardrop once I collected the drill.

Who said this truck should not work ?

Assembled, cleaned and serviced. Good value at £80.00

I will do a more complete write up with pics when I get time.

In the mean time the truck still pleases me.

Thanks for checking in.

Nice looking drill press. How much is 80.00 in dollars. I have a question how much is gas in your local area.

I do like your truck trailer combo.

Alan, I like the truck. A lot. Maybe too much. Dash is way cool and I am curious about how you ran the A/C through the firewall. It looks different than others I have seen.

Thanks for sharing.

£80=$125 today.

Petrol about $2.10 per liter.

Diesel about 10 cents per liter more.

hmmm.. Anyone else?? I will be attempting to mimic the oval drain holes seen along the sides at the rear I guess.. I can't imagine all the surface area of the roof on these trucks being able to adequately drain water through these four little holes..

Yeah, only front ones and mine was an original paint rust free AZ truck, maybe different for east coast built ones.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Porterbuilt Tubular trailing arms, pipe notch fab for later install. Out with the old boxed and powder coated originals and in with some tubes that are 1/2" longer to center axle in wheel house.
