Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I have a perfect "62" grill surround that I'll probably sell off to some one that needs that year instead of hacking it up. I have a good later one for my truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Got my new mufflers put on today with new down pipes. It sounds good but maybe a little too quiet. I had to drive it to the shop without a bed, bumper and no lights. Made it there and back without getting arrested!

I have to go pick up lumber and strap it to Cecilia tomorrow morning bedless, lightless, and with a huge honking bumper sticking out. Plus a baby in the cab. It's good for the ol' ticker I guess, looking out for the coppers!

Today and yesterday I got in my new scaler that Vernski made me buy, my Leno recommended gear oil, and new rear brake shoes. I won't be able to put them on until next weekend but it's pretty cool opening boxes.

I snuck out and got some door panels at the junkyard and put them in storage... So the wife wouldn't see them. .. some time you just have to hide the parts...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Bench bled the master cylinder and bolted it on the booster and cleaned up another throttle and detent cable bracket I found in our parts. Cleaned all the bolts to put the front sheet metal back together and etched them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Cut ground and chiseled 22 welds the previous owner decided needed to be there to hold the bed on after doing a steel floor conversion. Apparently he was allergic to bolts! LOL. And did not own a square. bed was off to drivers' side about 1 1/2" and 1" too high in the back.
Anyway, bed is off, Suburban tank w/ EFI in tank pump is ready to install tomorrow.
yesterday, installed the alarm and worked on fabbing up power door locks. Not satisfied with the result, but will get it worked out.
other than that, we've just been enjoying it!

I'm getting my wood tomorrow but I'm strapping it to the top of my car. At least they are cutting the boards down from 16 feet to 8 for me.

New latch and controls installed. Mocking up a set of Nu-Relics power window units...marking for the window crank switch cutouts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Dollied some dings out of the inner fenders and touched up the primer before putting the driver's side inner on the truck. Rubs on the steering shaft coupler so I have to figure that out yet... could be it needs the firewall tab bolted up to get straight for clearance sake.

Flared and routed the brake lines down to the proportioning valve - done with tubing for now and ready to bleed brakes.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Adjusted the rocker arms and drove my truck today. Found some bad lifters and lobes on the old tired cam. Still does great at 4300 rpm! Love cruising at 2500 rpm I reckon that's about 45-50. Good-ol-chevy!

WARNING! If you are restoring a really rusty truck - the following pictures may upset you!
I stripped the top of the dash and the perimeter of the windshield down to bare metal. I didn't find any rust! Wooohoooo! Look at how nice the flange is! I expected to find some pitting but it looks like new!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Started to install my bed strips. What a pain in the ass doing it yourself. Would it kill them to make the bolts 1/2" longer so it is easy to thread a nut on?

Man, you sure are right! I knew when I saw this truck that it was a great resto candidate. It has plenty of dents though. No matter, I like learning new skills.

pdxhall,
That looks really nice! The Raptor instructions say a gallon will cover 125 SqFt. How much should I buy to do the bottom of the cab like you did? Did you use 2 coats? I see that it has a medium texture so I'm wondering if dirt clings to it or does it wash off pretty easily?

The painter for my '60 Mr. Art put a rubberized coating on as well. I had planned to do that and forgot to ask him to, but he does this on all restorations.

Earned my truck a pair of modern side mirrors by making my friend Martin a cubby hole/glove box inner in thin steel.

Pics later.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Suburban tank mounted under rear of bed w/ new sending unit( O'Rielly's sells an Equus brand universal- $30 and works great with GM)

All unnecessary bed ribs removed from under the converted steel floor.
rear coil springs removed, air bag mounts put on and bags installed.
Bed back on and is now square and level with the rest of the truck.

Calling it a day, going to float in the pool with a cold one and enjoy family for the rest of the holiday weekend.

Wishing you all a great holiday, as well!
