I've got to clean up the drip rail now. I think I'm going to weld a piece over the top and just box it in. It will look original but won't have the channel. After that will be the fire wall or hood. And then the fab work will be done..?? Maybe. I need to get that mga done and start building the engine too.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I was thinkin of doing something different with the firewall too. Not just shave, & smooth it, but do something with that ugly step in it. Like the pinch weld. Maybe fill it.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Yeah, not sure about the firewall either. I'll figure it out when the time comes. Today I started boxing in the drip rail in the back. The steel yard gave me a perfect piece of 16 gauge that was bent tight. I just have it tacked in for now till I get the rest of it fitted then I'll finish it all up.

Love the rocker improvement. Those pinchwelds always looked like an afterthought. Can't wait to see the rain gutters finished. Nice work!

I really miss you when you are gone man, your build is one of my faves to keep up on.
All shiney and stuff !!

Keep it up, your boxing in of the drip rail is unique, cannot wait to see how it turns out for you!

Your absolutely fearless, but a great eye for fixing the ugly. This improvement is genius, they don't look right with the gutters cut off, but this is cool. Totally agree with McMurphy.

Thanks, guys. I really have been trying to get as much done as I can and staying out there longer than I should at times. I like the gutter overhang just not the channel itself. Boxing it in was the only option. I've seen some trucks where it's shaved completely off and it never looks right to me.
I've been eyeing that rack and pinion conversion from Rob at NoLimit and I think I'm going to pull the trigger pretty soon. It's time to make sure the pullies clear the rack and the steering shaft clears the headers, etc. I'm also going make a plan for the fire wall when I have the engine in there to mock everything up.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

If you're going to take this project on make sure you have plenty of wire in your welder, gas, flap disks, and patience. It took almost two full days but it's well worth it.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Yeah, after making templates, cutting, forming the pieces, it's basically two stitch welds all the way around the top of the cap. Then grinding and more grinding. Looks nice though.
