Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Well, I had to break down and bring in a hired gun, John Harden. A whiz body man from my friends body shop. The original cab that I used the rear of had been rear ended once and both sides or the cab back had dents from the bed smacking it. I had worked them a while, but to keep progress moving along and to keep everyone here on the board happy, I got John to come by today and whip them into shape. It might have taken me weeks to get them right - if then - and I knew ya'll would not stand for 3 weeks of pictures of me struggling.

On another note, the doors are ready now and I'm working on the fenders to get them done today too.

I don't have any sealer to spray on to keep all the primers and bondo and icing from acting up so we will have to wait on the blue. I did the hood since it was all clean metal with only epoxy primer on it.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Saturday night picture time

John was able to work both sides and the welded door. Right side is ready for a final skim coat as well as the welded side. The drivers cab corner will take bondo work and then icing.

I found 2 high spots and 1 low spot on the top edge of the fender. A hammer blow and a little glaze will take care of them.

I went ahead and ordered all my body side moldings so I could position them and then decide where the paint line should be. There is also a FAQ on the board showing where ALL the moldings go that someone scanned from the GM assembly manual.

I just ran across this free video series online and thought I would share. They know a heck of a lot more than I do, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. http://www.ehow.com/videos-on_5135_c...paint-car.html

I also have been researching my headliner all night and think I have a start. I won't be working on it anytime soon though.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

So are you using suburban molding for the front and shortbed for the bed?

Yep sir.

Upper molding is a little tricky though since burb upper molding is totally different than a truck. I'll be making some custom pieces out of longer truck ones for the rear doors.

Give James a call at Mar-K. I had him make the pieces you're talking about. Look in my suburban thread I think I have some pictures there..

I know I'm jumping around here a little, but it was just so tempting I couldn't resist.

so what do you think about the mat you got since you've started to use it? still pretty easy to work with? I'll be interested to know as well how well it works...

I really love it and it works very well. I had seen some people use it sparingly and I will have to say that the metal sounds pretty tinny 6 inches away from a spot you have applied with mat. I think slathering the whole thing makes the most sense. I need a 3rd box to do the doors inside and out. I did feel a little like Tar Baby last night trying to keep it from sticking to my fingers and everything else before I had it perfectly positioned.
