Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Thanks Keith..

Is there a need to weld in the notch around the edges? Weld to the frame rails or no ? I have seen it both ways but with Grade 8 bolts and stuff is it really required?

I see no need to weld it.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

These are the notches I'm going with on my truck I see no need to weld them with all the grade 8 bolts that hold them on.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I've never seen one. I'm not going to be hauling anything to speak of so I'm not worried about it. Nate's CNotch is actually thicker than the original metal on the frame rails, with what .. 8 or more grade 8 bolts holding it in? I dont think strength will be a problem for this truck, or the need for it to haul a travel trailer or whatever.

There's probably someone out there who's had one to fail at some point, but I'm not worried too much. It's scary, I have just never done it. I feel like I will be happier with the end result if it is notched. I like em looooow..

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

There is aboslutely no need to weld the cnotch specially with the amount bolts that hold it in place....

Naa, the block to just get it sitting right. 6+.5 .. 6+1 ? I'll just have to see how it looks once it's on the ground. I have .25" adjustability in the springs too.

Whatever it takes to sit her down just right once the bed is back on. What weighs more, a wood beed floor or metal bed floor?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

YEP ! It's here. I took the day off tomorrow, I'll post up some pics. Dad said it looked fine, it just had a LOOONG ride to TN.

Eric, I think we're good man. Thanks again for your help. I think you need to buy some Heritage 8.5's now and decide you can't use / dont need them .. then offer them to me for sale.

By the way, I thought this wheel was the same as on the Hazel truck but it's not. Keith has the Bonnevilles on his truck in Grey, correct?

I didn't mean you'd need it, but that I see once you've decided to notch it, you're pushing that limit. Just a comment on the progression, that's all.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Not going that low. Ill only have 4.5 up front so it will look silly with the back too low. Im on stock arms in the front too. I just want it stuffed with a slight rake. More drop in the rear to adjust for the taller tires.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I saw the wheel yesterday for the first time, it made it fine. No damage at all. Both are waiting patiently for us to finish up the rear drop. They are friggin sweet wheels and I'm glad I went this route. The wheel fits everything I wanted, sort of Salt Flat look but still different enough you don't see them a lot. I like the more 'open' look of the holes, etc. I'm stoked man..

Question - Dad and I worked on the PB notch yesterday. Yes, the rivets SUCK.

I have the original upper shock bar out. This stays, correct? (Red) The place where the original rivets were, (Blue) are now the bolt holes for the PB upper shock bar. (?) This looks correct to me. .. just making sure.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

The lower section of the notch would sit between the original spring perch plate and it becomes the new point where the coil spring cup bolts back on. The original plate stays, the notch sits under that plate and the spring now sits on that lower notch piece. (?)

Makes sense to me.

Anyone know the pricing on the PB lower shock bar, track bar and mounting brackets?
