Re: post up your camping pics
it's a nice spot, on the water..
dawg likes it... prob #2. after we unloaded the quads, noticed my son's new 8 grand quad was clicking from the rear wheel. could'nt find anything wrong so i took the wheel off...brakes quad is a month old and has 2 rides on it, the brake pad holes where they go threw the rods are all wollered out allowing the brake pad to climb the disc and then slam back down causing a very loud click...tomorrow when i start fixing things i will take a picture of my rube goldberg fix...glad this thing has a 2 yr warranty... so while i'm mcgyver'ing his brakes, son takes the boat out for a spin, which led to prob #3....cam follower on the starter (so you can't start the motor in gear or start with more than an 1/8 of throttle) broke....jeebus! first day out and no motor for the boat... no motor... well, good thing i had wife bring the stepper...going to run all the 200 mile way home on sunday nite and hit the repair shop first thing mon morning... |

Re: post up your camping pics
a screaming run home...what a way to start my va-cay
well the motor was an ordeal...the 2 shops that fixed outboards- don't fix outboards anymore, the only repair shop that still does is closed on mondays (??!!??) last place in town, they don't really do repairs and were booked solid, managed to slide me in and get a new follower and have the Johnson purring again...big shout out to Venture River boats! and while they were fixing up the outboard, i decided to try find a new clunk on the stepper...turns out my whole tailpipe had broke off the muffler from my hi-speed run down, and was smashing around...again, tomorrow i will take a pic of my other rube goldberg repair...ripped off the entire tailpipe and fastened the muffler back up with some baling wire... and blasting back up. came across these rafters floating downriver dawg was glad i was back...prob more so than anyone else............... |

Re: post up your camping pics
took dawg and went exploring around the lake.
he found a log... we went on about a 80 mile ride one day up the mountains. was impressed with the wife, she hates heights, and she hates narrow roads at heights...she was a little nervous, but she did it..... |

Re: post up your camping pics
after climbing up about a mile, another problem raised it's head...my quad started running hot, which is weird cause it's liquid cooled and i just put new coolant in it last month....turns out, during my "cruise" to the waterfall, i must have snagged a stick or something and ripped one of the wires off my fan....
another field fix, and on our way... |

Re: post up your camping pics
seeing how i had to take the stepper home, kinda blew my gas budget, as well as my tailpipe. as the muffler is just wired up, we went on a short mellow drive to this forest service site

Re: post up your camping pics
heading back. like i said, glad we got out on this ride..
cause when we got back, went to get a cold one out of the fridge, and it was'nt cold, and the fridge stank of ammonia.....yup, kiss of death, cooling unit frapped out, and as our camper is an '89, most likely haft to be a fridge replacement....money time...big money time... sometimes you just haft to stop banging your head on the wall, we cut our holidays 2 days short and came home.... even coming home we got tied up at this construction site...bah |

Re: post up your camping pics
Bummer on the fridge. I'm happy I dumped the original fridge in my camper from 1982. I plugged it into 110 and it seemed to start working, but it was right where I wanted my seat to lean back to. So it had to go.

biggest dilema we're facing is wether or not to replace it....paid $1500 for the camper about 10 yrs ago, do i really want to spend $1500 for a fridge? i would in a heartbeat if...if we had'nt outgrown it. my wife and i used to sleep in the overhead and my son would sleep in a cupboard flip down above the table, but this yr he has grown much too big to fit up there, so he got the overhead and wife and me got the table fold down bed...prob is the table fold down is only 5' 5", and i'm just under 6', as is my son, so putting him down there still causes child abuse...lol.... normally i look forward to sleeping in the camper, i always seem to sleep like a baby out in the bush, but not this time...got to the point i was opening the door in the middle of the nite and letting my feet hang outside...only thing is we all got eated by skeeters... we might just try find a reasonable used fridge and then sell it and get something with a little more room. easier to sell with a working fridge than a non-working... have'nt popped the wheel off my son's quad yet, but here's my tailpipe off the stepper. was a Flowmaster cat-back system i put on there in '04, guess i can't really complain, got almost 15 yrs of service out of it for it got rotten.. and when we were putting the quad trailer away, this happened to my trailer dolly...ever try to push a 1600 lb trailer over gravel with just the little plastic wheel on the leg?...maybe it's time to go climb under a rock until Murphy gets the heck outta my business...lol |

As you found the 3way fridges are problematic. I'd go with a straight 12v or 12v/110v unit. Check these guys out https://www.truckfridge.com/truckfridge-models/ They mainly sell fridges for over the road trucks, but with some careful measurements, you might be able to match one up. Not sure about the exchange rate to Oh-Canada, but prices are pretty fair. I'm strongly looking at the chest fridges they have as they are half of what my buddy paid for his Snomaster we brought on the desert trip. Kids do have that pesky problem about getting bigger/taller over time. If bears aren't an issue I'd get him a tent and let him sleep in the great outdoors! Either that or it's time to start shopping for a bigger camper.

Re: post up your camping pics
can't really complain about the service i got out of it Rob!, 10 yrs with zero probs 'till now, and it is 30 yrs old...turns out too many ruff roads did it in, i found a crack where a tube goes into the boiler...just having a hard time justfying dropping $1500 for a new fridge into a camper that we outgrew...
well, after looking at all kinds of fridges and the money they command, i think i found a solution to my problems. i only paid $1500 for my camper orig. and prob only have another $2-300 in it over the yrs, so i don't want to spend lots, and i could only find a couple used rv fridges up here, and only 1 will fit and it's 600 miles each way away..... then i came across this and am going to check it out on sat... our camper is an 8', '89 Travl-Mate, this camper is a 8', '88 Travl-Mate-it's an exact match in every detail, right down to the upholstery, same layout-everthing, even has the same red stripes as ours had before i re-did them green, which is pretty rare as Travl-Mate's were made in the Okanogan and they did'nt make a lot of these ones. as you can see it has some serious damage where the jack used to be, but the fridge and all other appliances work perfect. besides the fridge (direct drop in, exact match) there is a bunch of other stuff we can salvage from it, and the guy wants 400 clams firm for it, less money than the 600 mile away fridge i was looking at. going to ask the guy to fire up the fridge on fri before i come, if it's good, i'll need to borrow a truck from work, would'nt trust jacking that thing up the 46" needed to clear my crewcab bed....lol a good sign though, they still use it, damage and all wife and i have decided to sell our old faithful, we plain outgrew it, but a $400 investment could pay off, easier to sell and worth more with all the appliances working than with a frapped fridge. we have decided to sell it cause were looking at this......... |
