Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I built a frame for the back bed and put a piece of plywood on top so i can use the truck to carry all my junk to the good-guys car show this week end. i took the truck out for it's first ride last night ever! It runs good i am very happy with it so far still have lots of bugs to work out but she is moving!

Thanks Ray

Nice job on the frame. Is it inch and a half? I can't recall ever seeing plywood with the grain running on the 4ft.

The steel is 1" and the ply wood is 1/2" i used two sheets. I just did it for the show because i didn't have time to build a nice wood deck for it yet.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Bed looks nice.

I ordered the cab mounting kit for mine. Hopefully I can get it on the frame in 2 weeks. This weekend I hope to have the rear end painted and the engine mounts finished.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Since I'm not going to use tail tailgate chains, I wanted to fill the void on the tailgate. Cut a piece of angle iron and weded it right up. Turned out pretty good.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I looked at it and thought about my coil-over mounts. tomorrow i will put the cover back on my rear end. bad gears and all. then I can finish the suspension mock up.
i will worry about the gears later. It will be a good excuse to change ratios for the four speed.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Body work and fixed the tailgate trunions so they are perpendicular to the tailgate instead of angled 3/16".

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Think I finally am done with grinding rust off this truck...

Pulled the rear end this weekend and cleaned it. After 2 coats of POR15 and 3 coats of flat black it matches the frame (no pictures at the moment). Pulled the axles to get them drilled for a Chevy bolt pattern, finished the mock up of the motor and transmission, pulled the motor mounts to finish the welding on them and put the motor back on the stand.

Next weekend my goal is paint and to finally put the thing in between the rails for good.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I put the rear end back in after I cut the brackets off that were in the way. now I can start on the coil-over mounts. and then some more gussets and a couple braces.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I started the lower coil-over mounts. I started last night by making a drawing and tuning it until I had somthing that I liked.

This morning I made a template for the parts that fit between the shock and the part that welds to the housing{on the left}. The template is .125 smaller on all sides to compamsate for the tip on the plasma cutter.this will allow me to make all four parts the same. it will also make it easier to make a replacement if I don't get the bending right the first time!

Then I drilled the holes for the first plate that welds to the housing.{on the right. The silver marker lines show roughly how it will look.As an after thought I think I might add another adjusting hole on the bottom.
When I get it the way I like{before cutting} I will clamp a blank to it and use transfer punches so both come out the same. I also like to bolt parts that aer the same together during final grinding.
