Remember back in the day when all we cared about was hanging an alternator?

I'll look for some dimensions too. Do you still have your inner fenders on? if so, what dimensions do you get from the crank center pulley to the inner fenders on both sides? what about the same but from the water pump pulley to the inner fenders? Cheers!

I do and was thinking those dimensions would be handy so I will get them. There will probably be variation depending on engine placement....up, down, fore, aft.

From the few minutes I have to search. It looks like earlier Vettes (1998) had the alt up top and a newer (2002) had it down low. Still on the look out but thats what I found so far.

Here are the dimensions in my Burb. The dimensions will be varied based on engine placement as the inner fenders are not squared up and down or fore and aft. You can see that in the second picture.

This engine is 2" above radiator support cross member as measured from the outside bottom of the truck balancer. Left rocker cover is about an inch forward of the toe board.

I heard back from R & D, their radiator measures 3 1/2" from mounting flange to the back of the slimline Spal fan.

Nice specs you dug up there doug! helpful stuff, I like to keep stuff simple if possible. LS stuff is far from simple! I personally don't even like the look of full serp setups. I still like the ol' two belt sbc stuff! ironically I do like seeing coils and the modern look of an LS, just not the front of it. Its always something, I'll be on the hunt and or right in your position in a few weeks when I get engine plopped in and start seeing what the heck I gotta REDO.

Sid, thank you for doing the research too. I didn't know about the different Corvette configuration. I think working together we will all figure out what will work for our builds.

99, This information is probably in a sticky somewhere though I didn't find it in one place. So many variables here. Sometimes I think I would like to build something that bolts together without all the configuring and fabrication. We dropped an LS in a friends 65 Pontiac wagon in like 10 minutes. Would have been 5 except we had the engine mounts in backwards. So easy.

Mark, I agree on the truck set up, especially for an AD truck. Corvette is way too wide and I think the Camaro will put the alternator into the frame. Rub is the Camaro intake won't work with the truck accessories.

Thanks to a member here who pointed me to the instructions for the Holley A/C bracket to see the dimension from cl of engine to outside edge of R4 compressor is 16 1/4". I am pretty sure that will put the compressor slightly into the inner fender. Sanden dimensions are 18 1/4 inches. Tried to copy the picture to here and couldn't figure it out on this Ipad.

Here is my engine location to firewall...about a finger width. Pretty sure I am going to copy Iceburgh for firewall modification. Right after we deliver Christmas cookie trays to neighbors.

There is a way where you cut a portion off of the truck ALT mount and relocate the idler in order to put a car LS intake on. Check this out.

Maybe I'm fussy but the ALT sticks up quite high above the intake.

Any chance you can try again to post the pictures of the Holley bracket dimensions?

Great information Sid! I agree, the alternator sticking up doesn't look great.

I did quite a few little things to mine to get it to fit how I wanted it. I did a similar firewall mod, trying to make it appear somewhat factory. I took a leftover piece from a patch panel and used it to fill in the gap, worked very well.







I also ditched my stock inner fenders in favor of custom ones I made. I just couldn't stand how much wasted space there was with the originals, and also didn't want all the road debris thrown by the front tires to hit the back sides of the fenders. I ended up with a lot more room to stuff things.

And I'm left with a nice place to be able to run wires and hoses that won't be seen:

Is the box on the left one for PCM mounting? Looks like the fabricated ones completely replaced the original inner fenders?

Yes and yes. The PCM mounts between that inner fender and the firewall, on the driver's side. The truck harness is the perfect length to do that with, and it uses the flat s10 mount to fasten the PCM down.

Great ideas and fabrication BlueJeep. Love it!

The fabrication shop in town just installed a new waterjet. Exciting for we folks out in a rural area to have this available....so I had them cut out new frame tab engine mounts. Really, nice, clean and precise cuts.

Will someone please remind me to build in adjustability on the next set of mounts I do? I did the current mounts out of what I had in the shop. They will work fine once I get the engine in the right place. Just too much work when I need to make an adjustment because I didn't plan ahead properly.

I'm glad yo hear Mrs A.D. is feeling better and it's also good to see you back in the shop. Fitting the accessories looks like an interesting challenge. If everything just bolted together everybody would be doing it.

Thank you 65sub! I will admit sometimes I would like to build something that you can unbolt, clean up and bolt back together....then I start having so much fun with the welder, grinder and figuring things out that I come back to my senses.
