No, this turd is getting a/c and I'm going to use the stock stuff. I can make the turbos fit around it one way or another.

this is interesting. in the world ive been living in (off-road and rock buggies/engine conversions) that was not ever the case. 205s are god there. or of course the atlas if you have that budget. i love my 205 in the hunk-o-jeep. i rage the weewee out of that 6000# BBC rattle factory and never have an issue.

i may have to reconsider my ideas on t-cases considering the chances of smacking the case on a rock is near non-existent for my build. opens up some options anyhow. do you see a difference in the rate of explosion auto vs. manual?

as far as hard to find cases, i can turn GM small bearing cases into big bearing cases pretty easily. i have 3 in my garage that would make wonderful figure 8 big bearing cases with little effort.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

sorry to hijack. i assume you need to run the early late 80s-early 90s 241? is this the same strength as the dodge 241dhds? i cant find reference to a p-drop dodge 241 case anywhere. also, the GM versions will have a 32 spl. input and the dodge tranny has a 29 or 23 spl input. swapski?

how do you plan to attach it to the dodge tail housing? as far as i know the 6 hole pattern is incompatible as far as clocking goes.

thanks

ryan

Since all of you guys are all talking about blowing up NP205's behind a diesel, do you guys think I will be ok running a 205 behind a 6.5L/NV4500 turned up to 300hp?

The ones we use are for dodges, would be 94-present if you are looking for tcases. Will have to flip them though and do a few mods. NP241DLD, NP241DHD, NP271, and NP273 are all factory Dodge T-cases.

You should be fine, it's when you get over 500HP the issues start.

If I get that out of a 6.5L I will have bigger problems than a weak t-case!

Given the size of the wheel wells on these trucks vs wheel travel a well mod wouldn't hurt if it comes to that. For turbo clerance.

I plan on using a 241dhd from an auto trans pending it has the speedo set up on the tail shaft. If it doesn't I'll have to use a 241DLD from my brother's truck. I will reclock it where I need it and modify the pick up tube for the oil pump in the tcase. Another advantage to a 241 over the 205, is the 241 has a lower low side.

That's what I'm thinking. I will cut out the wheel well on the RH side and cut modify what I need to to get them in there and route the exhaust according.

Today I ordered my billet freeze plugs for the engine and a seat heater for it. More parts for the pile.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Making a little progress on the pumpkin. Starting to get turbos on this thing.

I took apart one of our 241DHD auto tcases, and converted it to 5 speed. I then placed it on the transmission to see what it looks like. I think it'll work fine with some work.

I'm still new to the diesel game. How much heat comes off the turbo when your egt gets high. The turbo seems a little close to the fiberglass hvac box. Love the build, wish I knew more about custom diesel building for my suburban.

Usually while regular driving exhaust temp gases are around 500-750*. While towing they are usually from 750-1150*. (The reading is taken before the turbo in the exhaust manifold, and usually is 250* less after the turbo.) On this truck I'm going to guess it will see 1200*+ bursts when I get bigger injectors. On my F-350, which I DD and tow with constantly, the turbo exhaust housing is literally 1/4" away frm the HVAC box, and it hasn't discolored or melted yet. (I've put about 30k on it in a year too.) This pic isn't very good, I'll get a better one tomorrow. If it gets too hot for the HVAC housing, I'll put a turbo blanket on it.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

i sure am glad you are making progress because i am at a dead stop. DD blew a head gasket thursday and my jeep is having EST issues. jeez...

that t-case looks all confused, but it looks like you should be able to fit 5" tube through there pretty well.

i bet the HVAC housing doesn't even blink. a 1/4 of air is enough to really insulate the heat. if the exhaust housing on the turbo starts to glow then it might melt that sucker but if that is the case i think you have bigger problems.

looking good sir

TurboS? I like what you did with the T-case. Are you just going to plumb the oil pump externally for it?

Thanks. Sorry to hear about your vehicle issues. I feel your pain. my F-350 has wanted a part a week some times. I guess it's mad I spend more money on the Longhorn now. Hopefully today I can get the primary turbo mounted and I'll show the pics of the problem area.

I was actually thinking of trying that and putting the pick up in the drain plug port. Too bad I already sealed this case up. It was supposed to go on my brother's dodge, but he's letting me use it for now until I get our other one rebuilt for his truck.
