Put the foot pedal back in my little red coupe. Worked on the house a little to. Summer is just around the corner.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I missed some time so here is where I'm at with that place to move things from the building I'm moving to. I decided to extend it to the building, leaving room for the 'move'
I decided to build a floor to make more storage space, so put joists in and sheathed it. Dang plywood and OSB are just about $50 just for 1/2"! You can buy solid core maple veneer right next to it for the same price. Crazy. I bought T-111, which is fir, for $10 a sheet cheaper. Yesterday I did concrete work I'll get pictures of. I still need to install a ridge cap before I can start storing things up in the new attic. The style I like is bare galvanized and I paint it the red. I had scuffed them up and wiped down with vinegar the other evening, so I cleaned those up and got primer on them, too. Today I'll paint and if dry enough install. I think it's warm enough now. Seeya!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I haven't done anything yet. Not sure how I'll go about that. I intended it to be temporary, made to be dismantled and moved once the barn is moved. That t&g gable siding is on two panels I can unscrew from behind. I may keep it and if I do I'll get rid of the blocks and do it right. It needs sides now. I don't want permanent sides if it does stay, so maybe just heavy plastic. Gotta go paint

I've got to build a new floor in the 12x16 addition where we tore out the old hot tub and rotten decking. The redwood was okay but all the joists were gone. What I salvaged is all short pieces. I already figured ply/osb and 2x6's are going to run about $700! Ply is only $4 more so to heck with OSB. I hadn't thought of putting T-111 upside down for a floor. Worst part is there is no sill as the wall was built right on the stem wall, so I've got to figure out some way to hold it up? Originally they built a little 2x4 wall about 12" high and that completely rotted out. So I'm thinking about some cinder blocks with the scrap redwood on top for spacers to get the right height - basically build a double plate of 4' long redwood 2x6 staggered like bricks with the concrete blocks about every four feet? There is about a 6" wide lip of the footer inside the stem wall (3 sides), plus about an 8'x8' concrete slab more or less in the middle that the hot tub was sitting on. Nothing about this is standard construction so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do it "right."

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Lumber prices are nuts right now. (And have been) I priced a 12x16 shed last spring at about $1500 for everything but the roof. Last week I priced it again at $2500 now for the same list of stuff(I already have all the wood siding so that’s not included) crazy. That’s me doing all the work.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
You have to wonder what a prefab building would cost now.
I have been putting off re-siding my shop. It currently has 4x8 8"oc fir siding on it. I have been thinking of going with metal siding to put an end to painting. With these high lumber prices I imagine metal has gone up as well. So I don't know.

I paid a bit more than $38. It seems it's only the framing materials they have spiked the prices on. Finish grade stuff isn't so effected by the BS. Quote:

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
$38 per sheet for fir is about what it was here the last time I checked. I also looked at LP Smart Siding for a little less.
I noticed the lumber yard I used to manage inventory is way down and I asked if it was intentional and was told lumber is just hard to get. They have a number of outages regularly. And that is the way of the new owners among their other companies as well even before the covid.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
In winterizing our camper for last winter I found the fresh water pump no longer worked so I kept it in mind and now it's time to de-winterize it so today I went looking for the pump. Lands sakes alive. They hid that thing. Luckily the pump still runs so I had to track it down by sound. It's in a small hole under the cookware in a cabinet no where near plumbing fixtures. On top of that when installed they ran the four mounting screws down into the rubber mount so far the rubber closed up nearly covering the screws enough I could not get a socket on them for removal. I ended up using a dremmel tool with snake attachment and small cut off disk to cut away the rubber around those screws. It will be reinstalled better than that.

T-111 was about $35 a couple years ago when I was checking into it. I would need 27 sheets to go around three sides of the pole barn plus a few more for the part that's taller than eight feet.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Washed the 4Runner and Impala. Cleaned up my shop some and finished up closing in the last end wall over a roll up door with thin tongue and groove. Cut wood for framing bathroom mirrors. I did the first one a few weeks ago.
Hope to get back to the truck next weekend.

I thought about you when our wind was at gale force again hoping your barn didn't finish letting it's self down. We were in New Sharon on Easter and I almost swung by on the way home but figured you had family over already. There will be a next time.

Leon I take it you are salvaging the wood. I've heard barn wood fetches a pretty good price these days or are you saving it to rebuild a barn?

That's a shame. Hope you got one of them "Barnwood Builder" cats to give you some dough for it! There's a Deal called the "c10 Shindig" in July, too. It's on FB. Looks like it's gonna be pretty good for a first time deal. Gonna be hot as the dickens, though.

They used to let the vanners stay overnight in the park. The club isn't involved. Classic Parts is putting it on. I'll put the arm on Carrie to get some info out on the ol interwebs. Are you coming for the shindig in July, or the meet up in Springfield in a week?

It's so sad that barn got destroyed by a freak storm. Just plain bad luck. You've got quite a project ahead. Not that it hasn't been already. I wish I was near enough to come help

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I put in recessed lights in the the hallway. Whoa! Those suckers are bright. I have no idea why my walls look shiny. They aren't.
Ignore the big dumb dog bed. I can't stand it there. I've tripped over that thing and about broke my neck. But when Duke was a pup. my Corgi, Nacho wouldn't allow him in the bedroom. Even now after Nacho has passed, Duke sleeps in the hall. He still won't go in the room. So I've got a dog bed in my hallway. It's funny because Nacho wasn't a mean dog. But he was the Alpha and could open a can of whoop azz if he had to. He kept order. He kept the others in line. All he had to do was stare them down and they would stop acting up. He never even growled. He was plenty tough and they knew it. I sure miss that little guy.
