I like the painted pillars & door glass frame.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Nice looking mirrors. Are those the 71-72 sport mirrors or something else?

I am going to use 68-69 Camaro mirrors on mine that look similar but the mirror head is just a little different.

I always liked lower trim only and the second color below the trim, but the 71-72 style is nice too...

Tell me Gringo, the 69 and 70s didn't have the option for cap and middle painted? Only the cab and below the lower trim or both but not between the upper and lower trim and the cab like the picture of the red and white 71/72 above? It really doesn't bother me because I have modified so much of this project. Just want to clear this up in my head.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Time for some more rust repair. I thought that there would only be a small spot that needed fixed when I was blasting the rust spots. Well, after prodding around I found more. I got a good deal on a Triplus patch panel from lolife, Thanks Keith! The panel is heavy gauge and fits very well. No major problems with the install, plus I am installing a headliner so the seam will be covered.
This is what I was up against:

Marking the cut

Cut out

RUST

Using the old piece for a templet. Always leave material to grind to fit when you cut these patches. (measure once cut ten times)

More fitting of the new piece

POR-15 on the patch

POR-15 on the roof

Tacked in place

Finished and ready for light coat of filler.

More rust to come, then on to fun stuff.

Not till we get on the Camaro I won't be using any more of Kenny's patches, but their rockers fit nice on both sides. LMC sells the exact parts I'm going to avoid them in the future too. I think it's just the nature of the beast. I guess some guys aren't willing to pay the high price for good to great panels like they use in muscle car restoration?? IDK, seems there is a market.

Thanks Mark, this one wasn't bad at all. Just took a million tack welds and about an hour to grind. I still need to do a little finish grinding but I'll do that when I mud work it.

Great work Mike! That patch is almost my worst least to do because you're right inside the spark/slag burn zone! Winter is a good time to do them for sure! It sure turned out nice!

I dunno. I've seen them both ways. I like the insert, but I also like to be different. It will look awesome either way. Great work on the header patch- made it look easy...

Same stuff different day. By the way, Just in case you wondered, I do have a real nice shop It's too full of junk and my boat to get this project inside right now. I figured this would be a running truck pretty quick, guess not.

Honestly, It's still a sore spot. I wish I would have never torn that old truck apart now. It would have been better as a patina beater for some kid to drive. I wish I would have known it was rigged like that when I bought it. Yes, Iguess it is kinda funny. Hard to believe what a desperate guy will do.

Heck I'm not using more than a handful of parts from the original 69. These restorations kinda take a life of there own over the years
