Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Thanks Dennis.
I gotta finish up today so I can get them back on the truck. Michael, I used black Rust-Oleum hammered finish. It's almost like a dark charcoal gray. Jon,

Nice work on the headlight trim pieces. I want to see them on the truck too. What did you use on the center caps?

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
When I went to meet RandyP, I noticed his centers looked super nice and all chrome. He told me he used red scotchbrite. I had some fine steel wool so I figured I'd try it. It worked very well. Last weekend I also used steel wool to clean my front bumper. It works great on chrome.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
I used a worn out piece of red scotch brite dunked in thinner, that gets the silver off of the center caps easy and fast. Then you go back with some 00 steel wool. They are all chrome caps that have the base painted silver. Steel wool is great on chrome and glass, do not get crazy with it on anything aluminum though, unless you like scratches.
Bezels look good Joe, I'm about to be in the same boat. Gonna be a little tough to buy new grille, bowtie and bezels when I am ready.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Yeah, the aftermarket parts are a lot cheaper, but I absolutely hate the way the emblem fits those aftermarket grilles. I'll suck it up and go OE on those, will be worth it. I'm missing the right headlamp bezel, it was broken so bad I just tossed it when I disassembled the front end of my 'burban. Now I'm just running with the grille, and no bezels. Looks ghetto, but at least a bird won't take out my condenser so easy.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Yeah, I looked them up the other day, did not show discontinued on my screen. So I'm hoping my dealer can still get one, heck they might have one sitting there. Going from memory, showed like $210 list for the grille.

Thanks John!
I'm going with blue. I really like the arrival blue that's on the silverado SS and escalade EXT. I'm thinking two tone blue and dark gray...

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Do you not have an emblem at all for the grille? I'll be sure to save mine if you want it, it is sorta fugly, but you could paint it to match the truck and it'd look good with your painted grille.

Nope I don't have an emblem. That would be cool. I've been looking for a usable used emblem

I'll put it on the list of "stuff to dump on Joe" when I take a long OKC test drive.

The grill and trim pieces look really good. Nice progress with the bumper too. Glad to see you should be ready for paint in no time.

Did you polish those caps out or what Joe? They look great. I wonder if you can still get the center emblems in the afttermarket?

Joe, you want a set of used tail lamp lenses with the chrome trim? Or do you have some already?
