Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
Chad and I worked on his truck all day yesterday and made great progress. He tackled the job of installing the Painless Wiring Kit and managed to get 90% of the connections made under the dash. He began running the engine harness wiring and we installed the Sanden A/C Compressor for the Vintage Air. The kit is excellent quality and the directions are pretty good.
While he worked on the electrical connections I installed the driver side door glass and vent window. The new green glass from AMD is beautiful and cut dimensions are spot on. I learned a lot about restoring a complete door, and it will test your patience. Now to the passenger side.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
Wow! That green glass looks super sharp. It takes me back to when I was a kid. If I ever have to swap the glass in mine I'd certainly go with that. Is the windshield the same? Does it have a sunscreen band across the top?
Great work guys!!!! |

Chris, the green glass was an option as I understand it, the CST trucks would have come with it. I think it's called sunscreen glass or something like that. It's super difficult to find original green tint glass (that's not scratched up really bad) so all the glass in the truck was replaced. The windshield has the tint too with a darker strip across the top. I don't think we're going to make it to Good guys with the truck but that's ok. We are still going even without the truck. It's going to be close but it's my fault. Just too much going on. Pops has done amazing I just don't want to push it. And.. I'd kinda like to drive it and show it a few times before it's gone.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
We got the driver side door completed with new vent windows and door glass. The window fuzzies are in and fit really nice. Assembling doors is a real pain, but with a little patience and time they are worth it.
The Lokar accelerator cable bracket is on and now we have a working gas pedal. We installed the cool powder coated power steering pump with billet cap from Summit Racing. The cool brackets are from ICB and really look nice and fit great. Alternator brackets are on the way from Yogi's Automotive. Once that is bolted up we will start measuring for the V-belts to spin it all. Installing the new vent window and door glass into the passenger side door is next on the list. I am leaving all the electrical stuff for Chad because he thinks much clearer than this old man. :-)

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
I got to see the beauty in person yesterday. I had fun hanging out with Chad & Pop's.
Pic (damn iPhone crookedness) of Chad and his great lookin truck! I should have gotten a pic of Pop's magnificent '66 Fairlane. It's awesome too. Last edited by nlped; 06-11-2017 at 08:31 PM. Reason: Janky pic orientation |

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
Thank you Ed for all your help! It was great to see you and hang out with Pop.
We need some suggestions on side mirrors on the doors. Early style with the painted arms or maybe sport mirrors? What would you guys put on this truck? ..no side mirror at all?

My vote would be for the painted arm but I may be a bit biased (sorry for the poor photo, it's the only one I had that sort of shows the side mirror)

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
I second the vote for the circle mirror heads on stalk arms. They just look right with the 67-68 front ends to me.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
We got the AC hoses crimped today and ready to go on the truck. Chad has most of the wiring done and we are now in the process of finding the correct length belts.
I would like to thank ThermoKing of Chattanooga for crimping the hoses at no charge and expressing an interest in seeing the truck when finished. We are going to get them to evacuate the system and charge it up for the first time. POP

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project
The AC lines have been installed and we have made more electrical connections in the engine bay. Man, installing a complete 18 Circuit Painless Wiring Kit PLUS all the connections for the Vintage Air has been a real learning experience.
