Thanks! This rebuild iteration should've been completed by now, but been paying more attention to the funny car project the last four years.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
After work today I went down to the garage to check something out that has bugged me for a while.
The truck has some white plastic panels along the bottoms of the doors, and when I bought it, my suspicion was that they were covering holes. Presumably speaker holes. But you could not feel it, as the plastic is quite thick. Ideally I would be happy with intact all steel door panels, but hey..... if the holes are there..... make lemonade. Et Voila !!!! Test fitted the 6 X 9 200 Watt speakers I had hidden for a rainy day and even the mounting holes correspond. I also have an amp in the garage that I gave to a friend a few years ago, along with a 12 inch Sub, which should drive the pair of 4 ways quite adequately. Of course there are also a pair of speakers mounted in the "B-Pillars" behind my head, but I will be leaving them alone. Along with the 400 Watt speakers in the doors, it will be way more noise than I need. Over the weekend I have a few bits to do, including going to see a guy about airbrush painting a skull. I may pop over to Martins, as he is in the electronics game and I want to fit a beeper inside the cab to my indicator, so that I can remember to switch them off after I go around a corner. He also has rubber grommets which he uses in his daily job, or removes from customers cars, so maybe fit some when fitting the speakers in the doors.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally got all the wood cut for my bed. I still have to put the urethane on 4 boards which I will do tonight after work. They will be dry in the morning and I'll start putting the bed back together. I ended up using spruce with a light pine stain and three coats of Minwax semi gloss urethane. The strips are powder coated matte black and I have all new bolts. I'm not looking forward to putting it together but if my son shows up to help it shouldn't be too bad. At least I won't have to get up and down a hundred times to get it done.

How about a little foreshadowing. Look! Oh my gosh. What is that there in the trunk next to the women's bag?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got some more of the AAW wiring harness installed. Apparently I actually installed the engine stuff correctly because it started and ran
Of course, this was after figuring out that for some reason my fuel pump no longer worked. It was all fine when I last ran it several months ago, but when I tried to crank, no fuel was flowing. Changed that out, then it fired right up. Now on to the headlights (and relay upgrade while I am at it) then tail lights, put the bed back on and I can drive again. Yeehaw! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Made a home made sifter and used it on the truck today. Works pretty good, dump dirt on it with the bucket a the tractor and move it around with the shovel, while dumping the rocks off the side.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I am not sure yet. A lot of lightning and dark clouds coming in from the north right now. I think we might see some weather here before the day is done...which would be good if it broke the humidity. I do need the parking practice though. I don't want to get scolded again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got some of the wood in today. Took me 4 1/2 hours to get these six pieces in. A lot of adjusting and moving around. The hardest part was trying to hold up the cross braces and get a nut on the bolt. The bed also spread apart about 1/2 an inch so I need to figure out how to pull the inner panels together while holding the bolt in the hole and the cross brace up while putting a nut and washers on the bolt that is in the deep pocket of the brace. I wish I had a conjoined twin about now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I hooked up the new battery. Put on some mufflers and drove it around the block for the first time in over 6 years. Boy dose it have bugs.
